Plasma rifle. Best average damage among rares, it's ranged, and it's not AOE.
I don't think there are good multishot weapons among rares: https://github.com/therabidsquirel/The-Fallout-Shelter-FAQ/wiki/Section-20:-Quests#202
So whats the best overall weapon dps wise? I had a group of all fatman and realized that is just.... taking way to long. All lvl 50, all full stats, all power armored up (though that doesnt matter).
Anyway, is plasma still the best overall? I read your earlier comment and swapped out a group to run just that and they seem to be clearing faster than the fatman group for sure.
Dragon's Maw is the best weapon in the game DPS-wise, but it's single-shot. Vengeance is the best multi-shot and Fatman is the best AOE.
For quests it's best to use single-shot and multi-shot weapons. For vault it doesn't matter, combat mechanics are different there, all weapons work as AOE.

That's a mistake. You'd better pick outfits that have P A or L for quests, since they affect combat. Or just focus on Agility - attack speed depends on it. Again see above link for deeper explanation.
Plasma is simply the best DPS-wise among rares. If you have Dragon's Maw and Vengeance - use them.
Hmmm, didn't realize SPECIAL stacks after max. Thought it just capped out, interesting.
As for vault weapons I kinda put that together as a lot of enemies die without anyone firing at all where as questing enemies dont take damage until the animation is there.
