If so, you can download a save editor and fix your save file with it.
And vault2.sav and vault.sav.bkp but only the 2nd vault appears ingame
well, afaik. those saves are binary files, so you cant open them in notepad and expect to see anything useful.
- open the game, dont load any vault
- alt+tab and open file explorer, go to the save folder you mentioned
- rename "vault1.sav" to "vault1.sav.bk2" (or anything that does not conflict with the other files
- copy "vault.sav.bkp" and rename the copy to "vault1.sav".
- alt+tab then alt+f4 to close the game (or hit the close button, w\e)
- wait for Steam cloud save to sync
- reopen the game and report results :)
thats weird, do consider captalization, i've had some saves not show up because the file name had the first letter in uppercase, while the game expected all lowercase files.
did you follow the steps i mentioned above?
launch game so Stean thinks the game is "running", change files, close game and let cloud save sync your changes
empty as in "zero bytes"?
in the "original topic" you mentioned you "lost your second vault", then mentioned your "second vault" save file is "full of code", which one are you trying to "restore"?
given the situation, your only "chance of recovering" your save is using a file restore program ((like photorec or recurva), but your chances are dim.
(or if you have shadow copy enabled on your system, which is uncommon for "average" users)
