Its a known bug from mobile version.
If you close the game without saving (crash or press X) it will despawn. I hate this bug on mobile phone... but it happen here too.
But you can save the savegame on your desktop or somewhere if it happen again. Make sure you press always SAVE and leave, never press X. Or a computer restart (windows update or something else) will destroy your savegame too.

I've always used Save and Exit, and my Vault is gone today too :(

As a side-note, I didn't have to re-install the game as it was still there, but my saved vault has gone.

Well I've got the same issue just now, I did quit my game normally save and exit , nothing crashed and even more weird my savefile is there as well as the backup that the game does. Both are there and dated from the last time I exited the game so wha tth heck is the game doing ?

Make back-ups of your savegame at user/appdata/games/falloutshelter
Jeza Apr 16, 2017 @ 4:41am
So I did a test, I backed up my savegame that isn't working anymore just to be sure not to lose it and I created a new vault, exited , launched the game again and that new vault is present and I can enter it .
Went to the repertory where my old save was and the save for the new vault isn't there so it seems to me that the saves are now made in antoerh location but our old saves haven't been transferred .
What I don't get is that we didn't have any falloutshelter updates so when did that happen ?

Open your save and its bkp as text, if they are all blanks inside - they are forever screwed by bad game coding.

I checked, not empty at all, also the size is bigger than the previous one (I keep backups) so more date in the file.

Then take a look in the logs %localappdata%\FalloutShelter\Fallout Shelter.log after trying to start the game while old save is in proper folder.

Then you can decrypt save with this http://fossd.bitballoon.com/
Then edit json online with http://www.jsoneditoronline.org/ trying to find what to fix or checking if it's FUBAR.
After that encrypt again and try to load.

thanks for the info it might be useful in the future but it's not the issue this time. As I said I made a new vault just to see and I can access it after login out and back in again but the save of that new vault is NOT in the same location than the old one.
In fact I couldn't find it at all on my drives and I tried them all so obviously something is FUBAR with the save location not the file itself.

Also I just tested this : I rebooted my computer and now the new vault I had mae 30 min ago is gone too.

I have no idea how it might be in another location if you're using Steam version.
Have you looked into AppData/LocalLow maybe?

I just checked it out and it's empty. Will try again to make a new vault and see if I can find the save there.
Also yes my game is on steam I created my vault on steam it's not something I ported from mobile or anything like that and it had been working fine so far :(

Just to be sure, you're looking into %localappdata%\FalloutShelter ?

I'm looking here :
C:\Users\SRO\AppData\Local\FalloutShelter

And I have 3 files :
Fallout Shelter.log was dated as the 2 below when I checked then dated today after I created the new vault
Vault1.sav 15/04/2017 13:28
Vault1.sav.bkp 15/04/2017 13:28

Well, that's interesting, new saves should always be there.

Even more strange :

I booted my PC maybe 1 hour ago, my vault was gone from the main screen and the 3 slots screen
Checked my save as decribed above and it was there and fine
I made a test vault , logged out of the game, logged back in it was on the main screen and I could access it but the save was nowhere to be found
I rebooted my pc the test vault was gone from the main screen,
I went to make a new test vault to test the location you mentionned earlier AppData/LocalLow and when I arrived to the 3 slots screen : my old vault, the one from Vault1.sav was back .....

I give up trying to understand but you can be sure I'll be backing up my save even more often now.
