Lunchbox Start and Base Building Question
So when you start your vault you basically get 3-5 lunchboxes to "get going" right?

So my question is should you basically just "repeatedly restart" to get good items and then once you do go from there?

My next question is what's a good or "ideal" base setup? I know you can only 3 stack the same room before it starts a new section so you should always stack the rooms together if you can, but if you have an elevator shaft going straight up and down it's easier for raiders to get in and out right?

So how should one build the base to make it resistant to "raids" from all enemies?

Edit 1
Is there any way to "guarantee" a legendary weapon/dweller from the lunchboxes at the start of the game?

raiders will always show up the front door, the best you can do is put a buffer room like a food room 2-3 wide right after the door room to prevent them to going at random places after entering.
2-3 wide room are harder to protect if you lack worker in those and highter level room attract harder threats so try not to upgrade room too soon.
Go slow, build small room and upgrade later when you have better weapon/stronger dwellers.
Endurance is key in this game, try to make the endurance gym as soon as you can(45 dwellers) and send all your lowest dwellers there to train to make sure they get more hit point as they level up.
50 dwellers trigger the radscorpion and 60 dwellers will trigger the deathclaw, so try to wait and progress before reaching this treshold.
Thats it for now, keep looking here, someone else gonna post some more tips in a little bit

I think I have 16-17 dwellers right now and I have upgraded food, water and power rooms and that's mostly it.

I was debating on starting over to try to get better lunchbox items. The only good item I received was a Waser Wifle or something like that. All the other items were trash. :/

i currently play on 3 different game and did restart often , trying to get a good combination of lunchbox item. I found it usefull to get at lest a nice legendary hero to be able to send someone out to explore for a good period of time, to be able to bring back weapons and armor regulary, an a nice strong weapon is always welcome in the bigining also, and often the 500 caps was good also, but if you play actively enough, finding the misterious stranger will probably give you enough caps to save your a.s.s often enough when you.re low oncash

I have a lot of cash after upgrading, that's not an issue for me. My issue is needing a good weapon and armor for my people so far. I have to stack all of my people in the power room by the vault door with rusty shotguns to try to kill the raiders and they somtimes run through my base. :/

some people will remove the elevetor at the begining of the vault and put a room right next to the door to prevent raider from going at random places after leaving the door room.Anyway , just take time to enjoy the game and everything will go well.
just try not to put 2x 3-wide empty room in a row, those gonna be hell to protect in case of fire and roaches/mole attack

So send someone out with your best weapon into the wastes.

Yes I was thinking of doing a 3 long power room, then elevator and make other rooms, so that they can't just go up and down quickly. Then perhaps stagger the elevators to make it harder for them to get through and start over until I get good lunchbox items.

I have, did, and they get nothing. :/

"Oh look a lootbox" 35XP
"Oh look a chest, wish I could lockpick it"
"Oh look an abandoned building"
"Oh a friendly ghoul that gave me supplies"

But they get NOTHING every single time. Literally gets MAYBE 150 caps if that, very little XP. no items and comes home empty handed when I have to recall them due to their life being knocked down a lot.

luck stat would come in handy to find better stuff, and remember, the longer they explore the better items they will find. at first you might send them for 2-3 hour and they will bring back 2-300 caps and 2-3 peice of gear. A week later you gonna send them for at least a day.

Yeah I tried sending them out for a few hours but it seemed every time they found a Yal Gui or Ghoul and almost got killed >.<

Just restarted and first lunchbox had a Focused Alien Blaster 15-21 Damage and a Victory Rifle 15-18 Damage it was "gold glowing" when it opened. Are those good weapons to start with, or should I try again?

very good weapons, try this one

Just got an assault rifle too that does 10-12 I think. So far I have 3 Power Rooms, 2 Living Quarter, Elevator going down, then 3 diners back left and working on 3 water rooms to the left and then I'll expand from there so raiders have to go through corridors and get shot up. I have 1 lunchbox left to open I think from collecting water.

Did vault #4. No good weapons but a high luck dweller and that was it. These lunchboxes aren't that impressive. XD
