Is there a vault layout that beats all?
Is it possible to follow layouts of the vault instead of making it my own way. I keep running into problems, ie. not enough power, rooms of 3 that should only have been 1 or 2, elevators not at the end of each floor.

Any layouts to follow?

There's no universal best of the best layouts, it's up to you to decide what's best for you. But there are some common considerations to be taken into account when planning a vault.

For example i divide rooms into three sections:
constantly populated facilities on top that also serve for defense
divided from them are sometimes populated rooms like workshops, training rooms and breeding room
then on the very bottom constanly unpopulated facilities that serve for capacity - warehouses, other 4 living rooms and medbay+science rooms.

I've just run into a big problem. My power room needs to need running at max power or else rooms go down. But i can't afford to get another ine because I don't have enough people.
Do i need more than one power room? Dunno what to do.

Maybe i should have made the rads and med rooms only one room too. They dont seem to do much :(

Check if your power capacity is not overloaded, there's a vertical bar on power meter, optimally it should be around the middle. If it's in the end - you're screwed and need to build another power room just for the sake of capacity alone, you don't need to man it, unless bar constantly goes red.

Also furthest rooms would shut down first, and in my case they are unpopulated anyway!

It's almost on the far right (power bar)

That's bad. That means even if you produce excess power - you have almost nowhere to store it.

I will send you screenshot of my vault sometime. Maybe you can offer help.

Here's my old list about vault design: https://www.reddit.com/r/foshelter/comments/492oot/question_need_suggestions_for_most_efficient/d0omny0/

Radscorpions wasn't a thing back then, so rooms with weak unarmed dwellers are always in danger.

Start over from what you learned. I'm on my 6th vault and it's doing much better. Don't expand too quick. Work on doing quests and exploring the wasteland.

I had 5 wasteland explorers at the very start. Log off for the day and let them explore while you sleep. They die just revive them the next day when you log in. Now I have one explorer and one full quest team.

I set a storage depot as my first room on that top level. Later I will man it to take on raids and leave my production from getting interrupted. A 3 wide depot can hold 6. The Vault Door can only ever hold 2 dwellers.

I do the same thing as Ryuu, I have a power room to the side that isn't very big as storage for extra power.

Yeah, i think restarting this game is part of the fun :) Though you can't technically lose, you can still "git gud".

I don't think that would work, AFAIK invaders drain resources wherever they are and production would not be slowed down much if at all.

I'll admit I don't know all the game mechanics. Game is simple enough I'm not diving into wikis or youtubers.

@PARALYSIS if you want to take a look, putting these up. Might be sort of spoilerish.

It's deceptive, in fact it's deeper than it seems, it has some genetics, inheritance, hidden mechanics, etc, etc.
Wikia and reddit are must-read for those who wish to understand what's going on.

This is my vault. Is it good? I have one power room though. Power and Diner rooms have permament staff trained to be there and labelled to be there. Everyone else is just there for now. Is the training rooms that are only two rooms okay? is radio room too big? lots of questions.

You almost don't have enough capacity to store power, you would need more to expand.
Training and radio rooms are still a bit more effective as 3 slot, but whatever suits you.
Living room as an entry room is always a bad idea. Invaders would move there, then to Overseer center, then training room(which would mostly be populated by weak low level and unarmed dwellers) and then to medbay which is also not too good as a guard room.

But the side of the vault can only fit two?
I'm not really worried about that stuff. I'm not playing hardcore and I can just drag people to affected rooms anyway.
one way to avoid fire and roaches/molerats spreading trough the vault is to have rooms like your overseer room in the center of the vault not touching any dirt that way you can only risk fire in the room and if you have people in the rooms beside it on the same floor and your quick you can stop fire from spreading also
