Fallout Shelter
Is there a vault layout that beats all?
Is it possible to follow layouts of the vault instead of making it my own way. I keep running into problems, ie. not enough power, rooms of 3 that should only have been 1 or 2, elevators not at the end of each floor.

Any layouts to follow?

but thats mostly important on surival difficulty as the vault somehow magically is the most dangerous place in the world.

I usually have the first room on Vault Door Level be the Power station and I make sure everyone working there has the best armor and weapons. Sometimes I put guards on door, but usually everyone is working.

Beyond that I make sure every room has at least one person with a weapon. I also make sure every room has 1 person in case of fires.

This has served me well so far, but I haven't got that far because:

Out of the blue after suriviving multiple bandit raids, I got a Rad Roach infestation, which hadn't ever been a problem before and watched as the room with 5 of my strongest, best kitted guys dropped dead in seconds and no one was strong enough to retake the room. :/

But the side of the vault can only fit two?
Yes, and best usage for 2 or 1 slot gaps are Overseer room(once), Barbershop(unlikely you'd need more than 2-3), Science labs but especially Medbays for medpak capacity(and it doesn't even depend on upgrade level! and capacity is linear, so nothing lost without third room slot).

I'm not really worried about that stuff. I'm not playing hardcore and I can just drag people to affected rooms anyway.
Well, you can redesign that later when you have more levels. There are 25 levels in the Vault, that means 50 full-sized rooms.

Armor doesn't do ♥♥♥♥ in vault combat. Strength stat does no ♥♥♥♥ either. All that matters is weapon damage and MaxHP(which increases based on CURRENT Endurance on each levelup). Level 50 guards with max possible HP and weapon could as well be naked - no difference.

Looking at my picture, do you think i should delete the medbay and rad station and instead make them two rooms (instead of 3) and put them on far side of vault under the training rooms instead?

It's your Vault, do whatever you wish learning by trial and error, you can even restart the game if you wish, i think it's part of the fun :)
I have a crazy Vault layout because i don't pay much attention non-3-slot spaces.

Generally i don't like having rooms which would never be populated(because they are for capacity purposes) adjacent to rooms which would always be populated. Well, you may have a dedicated "fireman" in each room, but it doesn't suite my playstyle.

Okay. Well trial and error means money and i just don't like thinking that I may be doing it all wrong. Thanks though. I'm just really confuse why at the end of each row I only have space for two rooms. They shouldn't have done that. Makes OCD people like me dunno what to put there now.

Agreed, made me mad at the start too. Therefore i mostly care for 3 slot spaces and i even build 4 elevators on populated floors, so it's easier to redesign, easier for dwellers to move, and sometimes isolation from soil.
There's no right and wrong, because you can't win or lose this game, there are just some general guidelines like in my link above.

Mine is this:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=897774700

Empty rooms at the top, isolated with a layer of dirt so any critters or fire that spawn wont spread to the rest of the vault. As I get better foood/power/water rooms I will destroy those at the top, leaving more room for empty rooms, while building the upgraded ones deeper down. I may have to do some other rearranging later but it's working really well!
