Just because you can doesn't mean the devs don't need to eat.
What's "Unfair" about it? This isn't multiplayer. The only person's game you're spoiling is your own if you obtain things illegitimately. If you want to pay, pay. If not, choice is yours.

There's also tools/web apps out there that do the same thing and make the editing easier.
But I guess it's more.. you can pay if you want. Why put so much time into anti-cheats? Usually people still find a way to edit the save files.
And I doubt many people will try to cheat; and if they can't make it work still decide to spend money on micro-transactions. (at least not enough people to cover the amount of time you spend on anti-cheat)
