Perception improve the precision or something like that
Endurance give more damage resistance
Charism is for doing baby faster, improve radio too
Inteligence is for doing stimpack and Radaway faster
Agility give a bonus to the attack speed
and Luck give better chance of finding items and caps
Strenght don't improve attack power, Agility don't raise speed of running...

Wondering, is bonus Endurance of equipment give bonus to health per level? Cannot see health, but now I wear Radsuit on every dweller before levelup.
(Example, if a dweller with 2-3 strenght got a weapon of 8-12 damage, he will, most of the time, deal 8 damage, if the dweller got 10 strenght, with same weapon, he will deal 12 damage most of the time)
Its not only for melee attack.
Health is gained while dweller level up, the more endurance it got will give him better health bonus.
So, your better to equip them with equipment that give endurance as soon as you can, their health will grow faster.
