most efficient way to level up
so i was very lucky and now have 3 mr handy from the objectives. i also have the recipe for normal wasteland gear (+3 e) which should be enough for normal dwellers that stay inside the vault. now i wonder, what will be quicker. send the dwellers in the wasteland to let them level up or keep the game running and send them to a resource production room with a mr handy?

edit: i have made a small mistake. of course the dwellers that stay inside, will not be sent to wasteland for levelling. but i also have two rare dwellers and was lucky enough to already have found three rare wasteland gear (+5 e) so i can send those out.

production exp is not that fast

ah, so sending them to the wasteland will be faster? good, that is what i thought. thanks for the confirmation.

Definitely, give them 5-10 stimpaks and watch the levels go

what's faster depends on how you're playing the game.
if you close the game for several hours and come back to do your stuff, then exploring is way faster and your vault dweller will have max. one level-up.
if you're actively playing your vault, then the vault dwellers can level-up pretty fast. so fast that it can become annoying to switch their outfit back and forth before leveling them up.

been semi-actively playing for a couple hours now (switching back and forth between fallout shelter and another game). it really seems like the dweller who i sent out to explore is gaining levels faster than the ones that stayed in the vault.

1) Wasteland
2) Outfitter
3) Solo worker or in a group is identical.

Check the site here, a guy tested it (intense) out, job, time and how much it brings about exp.

Wasteland exploration. They level automatically and require no input from you.

yes, that is what i thought, but i was not sure if they maybe get less xp so it would negate the effect of auto-levelling. but it seems that this is not the case.

Each time they lvl in the wilderness, health is max restored, using less stims. I've had a couple of fully trained come back with all the loot they could carry as lvl 50's with loads of stim packs. I know this happens, when they get sent out again, they don't last as long.

if they survive they generally hit level 50 in one go in my games from level 1. just gear them up and let them lose. takes about 3 days or so. 2 days out 1 day back,

Well you obviously are doing something wrong. A good weapon will help them survuve longer.
I have sent out lvl 50's (for 3 or 4 days), and they normally come back with more stimpacks and radaways than they left with.
