Warp Speeds too long?
I think so.

First off we have three but aside from a few very short microjumps I only ever use Warp 3.

Traveling from one planet to another is getting obnoxious. If I want to go and then come back 40 or more minutes of my Hellion game time is me playing with my cell phone and moving the mouse a bit to keep my screen saver from engaging.

While that would be fine in a movie, it would also be a cut to something else or a flash forward. It's not engaging game play because it's not play, just an unnecessary penalty.

I would like all three warp settings to be useful. I do like the warp optimization minigame with the nav screen.

So I would say, double the speed of warp 1, make warp 2 about where warp 3 currently is and set warp three so you can cover an AU in about 2 minutes.

That would leave warp 1 for movement between orbits on the same gravity well, 2 for short planet to moon or moon to moon hops and 3 as pure interplanetary warp.

If balance needs a fuel cost to initiate or a capacitor hit could be added so that if you want to use Warp 3 you better have solid power generation.

Thoughts?

I agree. Until such time as there is some gameplay derived from warp speed interdiction or in-flight onboard activity, the time is not quality time. You cannot even spend traveling time refilling jetpacks since they removed the onboard cargo console + attachment point.
And, consider to have a status display in the cargo room.

thats why we have a basketball and a hoop ingame ;)

just a joke, maybe we get faster ships in the future which can use warp4 or higher.. or we get ships which can travel faster with warp 1-3..

in older versions a travel between planets had taken some hours.. so the devs had increased the speed already ;)

I know they have adjusted the speeds in the past, hopefully they will continue to do so.

Part of the gameplay is the time it takes to travel. I don't see that changing much more than maybe a few minutes. The reality of the scale and how the devs are trying to maintain some simulational aspects of space flight also dictates how fast you can travel with current equipment.

As Zorz has said there may be additional parts/ships we haven't seen that will allow faster travel.

To use a Will Ferrel created Bushism, the "strategery" of the situation allows travel time to become a good part of the strategy.

Still like to see some old school cabinet vid games obtainable as loot and placeable in the cargo bay, or CQM. :) The vid games would show the high scores on the server with the players name. Be a fun way to pass the time.

Eventually the T3 and T4 detonator will have some purpose. Perhaps it will decrease the time for long trips.

And, if the cargo panel with attachment point comes back, you can spend the warp time a little more constructive.

I understand the why, but with moving planets I think they can get the feel of time with much less time.

On my server, US West 2, Bethyr and Eridill are only starting to pull away from each other and the trip between them is at almost 20 minutes. That means a trip when they are on opposite sides of the star will be much longer.

That is dead time. It's not fun, engaging or meaningful enough to justify.

Now drop the 20 minutes to 5 minutes and there is still a noticeable gap, but it's not punitive. It doesn't prevent fun.

Games like Worlds Adrift, EVE and even old Everquest have had long travel times but they also had content from wherever You were all along the way to where you were going and still all added faster travel tools.

@Stelar Seven, a lot of people are looking forward to Vanilla WoW servers precisely because it took real time to travel between locations as opposed to the instantaneous methods of later versions.

But of course that is a different game and you had things to do on long trips.

I'm sure ZGG will get it balanced out eventually.

I hope so, I really like this game but I foresee only being able to play at the inner planners so as not to get tied to just one rock.

I think warp times are currently perfect. Maybe we get faster warps in the future but I didn’t mind good old hour warps back in the day. It’s what gave me a sense of how big the system is. Besides I prefer slower paced games personally and warp for me means I have some time to smoke or eat or whatever. There’s no pause or save in Hellion so warp is my time to relax and think about the next move, check the systems, prepare for what I plan to do when I get to my destination.

I spend my time in warp on steam web browser looking for news on the hellion mission :steamhappy:

If you stay at it long enough you will find the rhythm. All good games have a rhythm.

Even though this is a simulation, it's also a game, and I agree, the warp times are far too long.

All the developer has to do is add in a few server options which allow for certain things to be allowed.

Here are just two options (examples) which could be added to the Gameserver.ini file.

server_name=Too Old For This
description=My Personal Server
server_password=poop
game_client_port=5970
status_port=5969
max_players=30
save_interval=900
number_of_save_files=2
vessel_collision_damage_multiplier=0.3
-------------- Possible Additions ----------------
vessel_max_travel_time=5 (5 equals 5 minutes)
auto_docking=1 (1 equals on, 0 equals off. Server allows for auto docking, and used by old people like myself..hehehe)

if a pirate kills u at your ship, the pirate need some time to loot it..

so if u are able to be there after 2minutes again by respawn, than the game balance doesn't exist ^^

If the pirate kills me at my ship they have plenty of options to get the loot. They can hack the ship, warp it to wherever and loot at leisure, they can dock and drag to extend.

Even the absurdly low estimate of 2 minutes is plenty of time for an experienced looter to get a few trips in with loot.

That's a really silly objection.
