Getting two ships
No need to state why, should be obvious to anyone with more than 10 hours logged.

Anyway, is it possible to dock everything at the start - airlock, life pod, ship, and then kill yourself to respawn at Arena to get he second ship?

In my case, towing another ship grapple to airlock makes it impossible to warp. No?

Yes, you can get new ship by respowaning in arena.

Yes you can, but i think you need let a distress signal on your base to find it again... And during this time.. :D

In most cases, this would delete my home base. Not just the nav map toggle to base, I mean it literally disappears from its previous location/orbit.

Is towing ship to another ship - grapple to airlock intended not to be able to warp then or is it just on my end?

Yes you can. What I do is when I get to my ship to dock it, I pull up the nave menu to see where I am and what I am orbitting, and right down the numbers for my ship/station. Then I hit repawn after docking, go to outpost and get everything I was missing at home base and find a ship. Nav back to where your base what and do a scan, your stuff should show up. Make sure to go straight there as you need to reclaim your cryopod to show it as your home station again.
