Guides and Tutorials

By popular demand we are starting a tutorial section. Here you can find tutorial videos guiding you through the basics of Hellion’s mechanics. We will cover things like starting scene, zero-g movement, docking, ship piloting, ship docking, navigation and scanning, mining and refining as well as any other frequently discussed mechanics.

In addition we encourage you to visit the Guides page and check some of the community posted guides should you need any more information on various topics.

Basic Zero-G movement and Docking tutorial:

Once again special thanks to our friendly bearded space Viking Erik McKetten for creating yet another excellent tutorial, covering everything you need to know about basic zero-g movement and docking modules. Ship docking procedures are exactly the same.

Controls:

V- Suit flashlight
W,S,A,D – thrust forwards/backwards, left/right
SPACE,CTRL – thrust up/down
Q,E – rotate left/right
SHIFT – RCS stabilization/grab near large objects
K – Suit contact list
Keyboard arrow keys – up/down cycle contacts, left/right filter contact list
R – cycles through available docking ports on your current module
Hold T + Mouse scroll – cycles through available targets on the contacts list
LMB/RMB – Cycles through available docking ports of your target

Docking port compatibility:

Standard Docking Port <> Standard Docking Port
Airlock Docking Port <> Airlock Docking Port
Cargo Docking Port <> Cargo Docking Port
External Docking Slot <> External Docking Port
Grappling System <> Standard Docking Port, Airlock Docking Port, External Docking Port

Navigation and Scanning Tutorial:

Here’s a quick guide that covers everything you need to know about navigation, scanning and warp drive. It also briefly covers what you need to do inside your ship before you can warp.

Controls:

Alt or TAB while piloting – enters free look when piloting
Interact with the NAV button below radar console – brings up the navigation screen
Scan – top left of the navigation screen, initiates scanning
RMB on planet/moon – brings up “create custom orbit” option
LMB on green dot on custom orbit – activates coordinates and allows modification of orbital values
Hold LMB and drag on coordinate value – adjust coordinate values
Hold RMB and drag on coordinate value – locks mouse to coordinate value, LMB releases lock
RMB on green dot on custom orbit/any visible object – brings up “travel using warp drive option”
LMB on blue squares – adjusts start/arrival time settings
Hold LMB on start/arrival time values – adjust numerical values
Hold SHIFT while adjusting time/coordinate values – allows precise control
LMB when prompted to confirm maneuver execution – initiates warp drive
