Position on map and personal loco in Realistic
I unlocked and completed my first personal locomotive (DE2), but while driving I noticed that, even if I'm playing in Realistic difficulty, now my position is shown on map. This never happened before with standard locomotives
Is this working as intended or is it a bug?

Sounds like a Bug
With Caboose ?

The only thing that gets marked on the map in my (modified) realistic save is the caboose.

Solved then. It was the first time I was using the personal DE2 and I had summoned it to unlock the caboose.

But why they made this choice? Why the caboose is visible?
Because you can teleport to it like to a city.
Because the caboose’s (basically sole) purpose is to show its position on the map (generally the end if you’re using it like IRL). This made the caboose almost worthless in realistic mode unless you had it on your train for pure role play reasons or wanted the extended remote range for bigger stations and parked it in a siding.

The caboose also has a career manager, you can install gadgets in it, it can charge the flashlights and the remote and the brakes never overheat. It also has a display for brake pipe pressure and lots of storage space for items.

Ircc it has max of 6 storage slots (even though it's got like 10 drawers and cupboards) so anything over 6 items will be returned to lost and found.
It would be nice if this was mentioned anywhere in the game.

Caboose role was only to accomodate crews and keeping an eye on the train from behind. In more modern times was used in addition for radio communications with the engineer. I still don't get while it should have a "GPS" in this game (in realistic)

I'm aware what the IRL purpose of a caboose was (and how practices and technology have outmoded them). I was referring to it's purpose specifically in regards to the game.

As for why it shows it's location, you said it yourself: if there were crew members in the caboose, they would be communicating with the crew in the locomotive. So the caboose showing it's location on the map is simulating the caboose crew signaling location to you (albeit much more precisely than it would actually be). They added the functionality to realistic so that those of us who play in that mode (myself included) can actually use it for one of it's main purposes in the game.

caboose marker should definitely be turned off by the same setting that turns off player marker

I see your point. But I'd like to turn it off, then. When I have the caboose attached I end up constantly checking the map while driving. Or better, like you said the position shouldn't be so precise on the map. maybe they could mark an area instead of a point
