Best way to proceed forward ? How to recycle jobs ?
I've done the tutorial, have about $47k after doing a few Freight haul jobs. I would like to get the remote control which I heard is at Machine Factory and Town before I do any shunting jobs.

So I am back at the Harbor from my last job and the only Job that I can take to Machine factory is a FH job that weighs 227 tons. The DE2 can get up to 40km/hr by the time I am at the harbor exit going up the mountain, on the west side.

It gets halfway up, through the second tunnel but then it overheats and shuts off. I've tried several times building up speed on my way to the exit but no matter what I do, it can not make the climb past the second tunnel.

I tried throwing all the jobs in the trash bin at the Harbor in hopes of spawning another FH job to Machine Factory that does not weigh so much.

Is there a way to spawn new jobs each time I load my save game?

Walk about 1 km away from the station then return. Jobs will respawn.

You don't *have* to take a job there. Or, alternatively, you can take a job for Farm, Oil Well Central, or City South West, and go from there. Or Steel Mill, Oil Well North, Food Factory and Town, or Iron Ore West.

You can also teleport there using the map (for a cost), or (if you're not on Realistic) using F. Using F gets you around the map surprisingly quickly.

Ah alright did not know this was the case. Will try it next time I load in.

Ok I was not wanting to fast travel there as it felt a bit like cheating. I am playing on Standard difficulty. Unfortunately the only jobs to farm or city southwest were also very heavy loads. I will try doing what the poster above stated to respawn the new jobs.

I can see why it might feel cheaty, but I justified it as "not cheating" by telling myself there's no reason in 2032 a shop can't just mail me my package :P IMHO there is no mechanic or gameplay reason you MUST go to MF to get the remote, and you'll go there plenty of times during regular play anyway.

There's an easier path out of the harbor - it's not obvious on the map, but the first switch after the harbor going west, you default to going right on that one, but if you go left instead, the grade is much much easier. I'm not 100% sure if you got past that switch or not, but it levels out after that switch really fast which really helps with the early engines.

Also, you can run two DE2s, even without the MU cable, you just have to hop back and forth which can get a bit crazy but is doable.

You might make it out of harbor if you run the engine a little hotter. Take the curve out of town near 50 km/h. The 40 km/h signs on the hill apply to the curve by the tunnel, not the hill, so take the hill as fast a possible. If you're still going 30 by the split you'll probably make it over the bridge and be home free.

227 tons is doable out of harbor. Just give it a few tries in sandbox mode.
Note: when coming into harbor it says 40, you can exit the harbor with 48... yes it screams... but it works ok. Also if you accelerate from E yard you can do some coasting in the last turn to get the TM cold again before the climb.
After exiting the harbor keep the regulator at 2 notch down from full, reduce further when Traction Motors hit the red untill the needle no longer climbs. if you leave them on full they heat up to fast.
110 degrees for a little while is fine, its just a little wear and oil.

And make sure that the DE2 is facing forward, if you run it in reverse it has worse cooling.

Thanks that makes sense it was basically speed up as much as you can before exiting the harbor. Not sure what I did as I forgot but I think I just cycled the jobs until I had something less heavy. Ended up taking a different load to machine factory and then got the remote and now I’m just doing shunting jobs to get the idea of the layout for each yard.

Was removed in build 93. The DE2 no longer cares what direction your facing.

Keep the amps just below the yellow(600). You can exceed 600 but once the temps hit 90 back the throttle off until your below 600. It will peak at 105 but if your amps don't broach 600 it won't go past 105.

I have pulled 800t with 3 DE2s from SM to HB. She defiantly can do 200 out of HB it might chug along at 10 but it will do it.

Also as others have said you can bank a left at the first junction after you leave HB and its flat and then take your next right its also flat. I was tempted to do this route from HB to MF with 1000t in the 282(Climb out of HB is a little to long for that much weight in the 282). This is not needed but an option

Take 2 DE2 out of harbor pulling 500t in mu. The one in reverse blows up when the other one is below 110. If they removed the less cooling for reverse it is there in #95 again.

Is the information reliable? I remember I coupled two DE2s back to back for MU. While the front one was still OK, the rear one started to complain about the heat.

I just think of fast travel like I jumped on board another loco and hitched a ride with a colleague that was heading that way.

And the fact that fast travel costs money, even more with locomotives in tow. I wouldn't consider it cheating, it's just a game mechanic that allows you to move around without breaking the bank.
