You can also teleport there using the map (for a cost), or (if you're not on Realistic) using F. Using F gets you around the map surprisingly quickly.
Ah alright did not know this was the case. Will try it next time I load in.
Ok I was not wanting to fast travel there as it felt a bit like cheating. I am playing on Standard difficulty. Unfortunately the only jobs to farm or city southwest were also very heavy loads. I will try doing what the poster above stated to respawn the new jobs.
There's an easier path out of the harbor - it's not obvious on the map, but the first switch after the harbor going west, you default to going right on that one, but if you go left instead, the grade is much much easier. I'm not 100% sure if you got past that switch or not, but it levels out after that switch really fast which really helps with the early engines.
Also, you can run two DE2s, even without the MU cable, you just have to hop back and forth which can get a bit crazy but is doable.

Note: when coming into harbor it says 40, you can exit the harbor with 48... yes it screams... but it works ok. Also if you accelerate from E yard you can do some coasting in the last turn to get the TM cold again before the climb.
After exiting the harbor keep the regulator at 2 notch down from full, reduce further when Traction Motors hit the red untill the needle no longer climbs. if you leave them on full they heat up to fast.
110 degrees for a little while is fine, its just a little wear and oil.
And make sure that the DE2 is facing forward, if you run it in reverse it has worse cooling.
Keep the amps just below the yellow(600). You can exceed 600 but once the temps hit 90 back the throttle off until your below 600. It will peak at 105 but if your amps don't broach 600 it won't go past 105.
I have pulled 800t with 3 DE2s from SM to HB. She defiantly can do 200 out of HB it might chug along at 10 but it will do it.
Also as others have said you can bank a left at the first junction after you leave HB and its flat and then take your next right its also flat. I was tempted to do this route from HB to MF with 1000t in the 282(Climb out of HB is a little to long for that much weight in the 282). This is not needed but an option
I just think of fast travel like I jumped on board another loco and hitched a ride with a colleague that was heading that way.
