And if you for some reason cant jump over something, you can always crouch jump - old FPS trick of crouching after jumping. Gets you on DE6 no problem even from the side we are not supposed to climb on, or jump fences etc.
So yeah, you can play without dash no problem, just have to plan a little bit more.
(and ofc i'd like to have proper ladder climbing)
We are suppoesd to use the front steps to access all the externals of the 060, which is very easy to access, but like with 282 not during travel, which is imho fair enough.
Tbh rather than ladders i'd love all the steps, rails and ledges get walkability upgrade... for example how we can reach DM3 engine from the cabin, or go from front to back on DH4.
As a side note for steamers, when the coal in the coal box chances shape you have ~0.25-0.3 remaining, (~3 full fireboxes).
That reminds me: I find getting the fuel nozzle into the DM-3 extremely awkward. I advocate for anything that makes climbing up there seamless.
