Derail Valley

Derail Valley

Persistent Wagons + Loco Ownership (What DV really needs)
Here to say i really enjoy derail valley and its rather detailed features. On the other side i have to admit, without the 2 mods "persistent jobs / Loco ownership", my long term motivation in DV would have already gone after 20h of playing time. The original DV despawns cars and spawns them randomly, this kills the whole immersion to me.

I suggest Devs to add thiose 2 mods as core feature together with the possibility to own locos. It adds sort of a RPG to the game, if you come back to the station and the wagons are still there as left. In the Mod the loading task ends at the loading track, so you can store the consist where you want.

Also it would be great to have the possibility of purchaising the exisiting wagons and need to maintain them. Devs could add a fleet manager for owned vehicles.

Further i noticed a lot of players mentioned after playing Railroader, they never touched Derial Valley anymore. This is because Railroader has a enclosed supply chain. Serving the industries has a purpose, and cars dont just despawn in the middle.

I think the Devs of DV put a lot of effort into the locos and Cargo types. Its time to think about extending the supply chain for giving players a long term motivation.

The game already includes locos that you can own, and job system revamp is planned.

The last 4 updates were all about new industries and cargoes. The work on those will continue.

Railroader's supply chain with a single origin or destination, i.e interchange <-> industries or logging camps <-> sawmill/papermill is not applicable to Derail Valley.

I am looking forward to the job system revamp. In the meantime I enjoy playing the game with persistent jobs.

I also feel the need to own more locos than just the demonstrators. One locomotive of each type is not enough for my style of playing the game. Loco Ownership allows me to play the game in a way I enjoy.
Thanks for the answer, just wanna know what people think about the current economy system.

Im not comparing RR 1:1 with DV, but while DV has way more and different cargo types, RR manges to give the players a purpose in the supply chain.
Yes the few demonstrator locos, which i keep in the museum, but wouldnt it be better to own more of those locos? I have consists where i need 3 DE6 locos for one haul. Its a pain to hope and collect them for "leasing". I use to haul them as dead engine to not loose them.

Its just my opinion, because DV has a unique customisation system for locos, also tons of cargo. If they manage to revamp the economy system, this would make the DV so much better, because the potential is there. All im saying is, there is something missing which keeps players longterm.

Looking at other games, its many times the factors "ownership, progression, collectables etc." which keeps people playing. Currently there is no point in earning money after having all licences.

One more suggestion:

Adding another tier to unlock a maintenance facility similar to the museum, but where you can do maintenance based contracts.

- Locos or wagons get delivered to the harbor and you need to repair them in the facility. This goes from entire trains to bogies on top of flat cars. In the end you deliver them back to the harbour

Don't forget that Derail Valley is still in development. There are many things planned and still to come: https://derailvalley.com/future/

Exactly.
There will be the before mentioned Job System Overhaul, a Bigger Economy System Overhaul, the Track System will also be overhauled and that is still the Stuff for Foundation Part 4 aming other "smaller" Stuff that's being added within this Update Phase.

Yet the next Big Update is still a while away with smaller Patched coming which will have new Tracks as well
