didn't even know they made these, had to google them up. Imma assume other people don't know: Its a game controller with a bun of switches and a reverser, throttle, train brakes and independent brakes. Pretty cool! I'm not sure I'd pay 400$ for the thing, but it would definitely be cool if it was supported!

The problem is (or at least used to be in the past) that they're not just expensive to buy for the consumer, but expensive to support for developers. It's not just a generic USB controller you need to add a control mapping for, but a completely proprietary device you need to buy the SDK for to support in game, and they used to kinda gouge developers for that as well.

Which is a real shame since it's left raildriver stuck in a tiny niche of being so expensive because they sell so few, they sell so few because it's supported by relatively few games making it a unattractive deal unless you're all about one of those games, and it's supported by so few games because doing so is both expensive and relevant to so few people that actually have the device.

ooof that sucks. There is no reason that couldn't be a generic usb device... its a bunch of on/off switches and 4 pots...

Yeah, it made a little more sense when first released (raildriver has been around for over 20 years now) in part due to the trickery they had to do to crowbar it into games with no support for any sort of controller device, but these days it should just be plug and play with all that games need to do being supporting analogue inputs for the relevant controls.

Actually, the Raildriver is supported by TSW, TSC, Diesel Railcar Simulator, and Railroader with a Free program from GitHub, or you can use Macroworks by PI Engineering/X Keys.
I made a Video on how it can be set up to be used with Railroader, using just Macroworks 3.1

Yes, it is a bit costly, $220.00 and the Hotas [See Link Below] is even more expensive and many people have it and use it with a Free program treated by Cobraone.

In my opinion, there's no need to buy this expensive and niche device called Raildriver.

If you have a flight sim throttle laying around, it is the perfect hardware device to control a train.

I'm a flight simmer, and use my 2 throttle quadrants to drive trains in Derail Valley using this mod. It is the best train driving experience, and I would never go back to using keyboard and mouse to drive.

I hope Derail Valley will officially support USB throttles and devices. It is very immersion breaking to drive trains using a mouse or keyboard. Imagine flight simming or playing a racing game using a mouse/keyboard like we did back in the 90's-- It wouldn't be very fun.

It is very disappointing how train sim developers have not addressed this issue yet and is still in the stone ages in terms of hardware support.

Of course there is no NEED. We're all playing without it... But for the real passionate people, thats a pretty cool piece of equipment. Your flight controls are considered niche by 95% of the population... train ones probably 99.9. So what.

A Zuiki Mascon is much cheaper and would work perfectly well with the DE2/DH4/DH6...
