Can the player buy trains now?

Can I buy and own trains now or just the licenses?

You don't "buy" trains per se, but there is an abandoned "prototype" version of each locomotive hidden somewhere on the map that you can find and repair, and once you restore it you own it and can summon it with the radio whenever you want

In general they are within the limits of stations, beside the tracks or behind a building or in a shed, things like that but there are a couple of posible spots just on the outskirts of some stations, GF and CW for example or in the mine on CME, that can be really painful to find. Look for a guide of the locations, they are not totally random, the spots are chosen randomly from a fixed list.

Yeah, they're randomly selected from a set of I think about 60 possible locations, my best advice is to keep playing, and whenever you get to a location you havent searched yet just spend a few minutes looking around for dead locomotives, so far I've found four of mine, and two of them were literally parked right next to roundhouses (DM3 right next to the museum, DE6 right next to the harbor roundhouse, DH4 in a random shed in the harbor, and S282 at OWN somewhere; note too that once you find the locomotive, there is a significant money investment (~$100-200k depending on locomotive) to repair it and get it running again

Took my 2 DE6's yesterday and drove around the whole map, usually only wanted to find the DE6 but of course it was the last one I found.
Now to tow them back to the museum :D

That one was the first I found basically right next to the museum, so that one was delivered first. At that time I was thinking of bringing them one by one ^^
Only when I drove out the second time I decided to just hook em all up.
