Derail Valley

Derail Valley

VR issue.
So question. I have a HP Reverb. I skipped the tutorial because flicking the right stick does nothing. I managed to drive the train but for the life of me I can't figure out how to connect the cars to the train. I can grab the air line and the multi unit thing but no matter what I try I can't grab the hitch. Any ideas?

Thanks.

You're meant to grab the end of one of the chains - the part that hangs on the hook - and drop it over the other hook, then tighten the screw by grabbing the part in the middle of the chain. An older game trailer very briefly demonstrates at 0:23 https://youtu.be/f_XCdfc-Exk?t=23. It should be the same grab control as with the air lines. I don't remember if by default you have to hold grab or just click it once to pick up and again to drop

It might also be worth doing the tutorial once in non-vr mode, just to get acquainted with how the general game functions and how the trains operate, and then switch back to VR

I have played the tutorial several times. I have over 60 hours mostly in non VR, but wanted to try it in vr. When I'm trying to grab the hitch it never highlights like the air hose and multi unit do when you grab them. I'm beginning to think it's like the push up on the right stick in the tutorial, it's broken. Just wanted to see if I'm missing something.

Such a prevalent function being broken would probably be much more widely known if that were true, but as frustrating as it is the only issue we're aware of for the reverb is in the tutorial. Perhaps your hand is too far away or you might not be using the right button: for me (quest 2) things being grabbed only highlight when I'm using the grabbing-objects-from-a-distance beam, which is a different function that doesn't work with the chain. Try hold your hand to the end of the hose and see which button will grab it without highlighting, and then apply that to the chain. For me it's the grip button

Thanks for you input. I finally did get it to work. You were right I wasn't close enough with my hands, I expected it to highlight but it doesn't. I have played a ton of VR just not with the controllers, don't care for them. I figured I was doing something wrong because I couldn't find anything googling it.

Note that as of B97 you can also interact with things from distance in Derail Valley without needing to reach for them with your hand. Hold Grip to aim at the chain (or any other interactable), then hold Trigger to move it around.

hmm, maybe there is a problem then: I (Q2) hold grip to get the from-a-distance beam, then pointing at the hose I can release grip to pick it up, or pointing at the angle ♥♥♥♥ I can press trigger to toggle it, but pointing at the chain on its hook there's no interaction available
