When was the last time you checked your drivers?
I'd recommend trying to update your driver and restarting the computer as a basic troubleshooting, then see from there
I also tried steam link and got into the game as well. Mostly just to try steam link since I have been hearing about it, and had not tried it before. I think steam link worked pretty much like virtual desktop, but I have not tested it much more than about 5 minutes.;
Steam link is a "newish" app that steam created about 8-9 months ago to support SteamVr on quest. Steam link is a free application that you download from the meta quest store:

As for Steam link - I have only used it for 5 minutes, it worked for those 5 minutes but since Virtual Desktop works over wifi for Derail Valley, I haven't spent any time testing it.
BTW, I think you have to configure steam for remote connections, basically steam becomes the remote streamer app versus the streamer app that virtual desktop provides.
I do use the oculus API when playing ATS/ETS2, but I play those over a link cable since I am sitting at a desk and don't swivel around like I do when playing derail valley - where I put my office chair more in the middle of the room so I can turn by turning my chair instead of just using a joystick.
