An Oil Burning Steam Locomotive
We need an oil burning steam locomotive, and I think a likely candidate is the Southern Pacific 2472. The S462. Using oil instead of coal for a cleaner burning steam engine, which could lower the emmissions fees considerably for those who don't want to spend a good chunk of money on engines like the S282.

Oil burner would also allow reverse braking without damaging cylinders. On the other hand you have to periodically throw sand into the firebox to clean flues.

Reverser braking shouldn't damage cylinders
weather the fire is fueled by coal or oil doesn't have any effect on the cylinders

As I understand, IRL oil fire needs more attention than coal fire. That would be an interesting mechanic though - cheaper to run, but you have to watch the fire more closely.

This is a European based game please stop trying ti Americanise everything, ... your side of the pond will get it's American themed DLC in due course , ... just have some patience.

Technically, it's not just american thing, in Europe were oil steamers as well, although never in such numbers as the coal ones.

On coal burners hot cinders will accumulate in the smokebox. If no measures are taken these cinders will get sucked into cylinders by pistons when countersteaming and deeply scratch both inside surface and piston rings. Oil doesn't leave ash, so countersteaming is on oil-burners is safer.

My guy, I'm not Americanizing anything. And since when did Altfuture say that this game is European? It's a game based on trains, not Europe.

Have you noticed the very american couplers and those very american looking engines and cars on the streets (and as freight car loads as well) all around in the game? Me neither... although being fictious the (eastern) european style is well visible and gives this game a very unique vibe and appearance.

In my opinion that is something to keep, so I'm happy the developers will provide additional map and DLC instead of mixing things up to a point where everyone will be disappointed.

You do realize that it's possible to change the couplers, right? There were American steam locomotives that went to Europe. So it's possible to add American steam engines to this game.

Boxcars, reefers, hoppers and tank cars in-game have american, not european appearance. DE6 is a US-built locomotive.

The map is based on former Jugoslavia and the G16 was used by them.

How so?
The steam flowing into the pistons come from the boiler, and just like when steaming forward the high pressure steam is ejected out the smokebox, arguably at even higher pressures because the piston is compressing the steam further instead of expanding.

any source would be highly appreciated as I'm not well versed enough in the subjet to know where to look for these things, but mentally and physically I cannot see how something like what you're describing could happen

And what happens in the other half of a cylinder when piston compresses steam? At other side the same piston tries to expand what little steam/air is left after exhaust. This causes more air to rush into the cylinder from the smokebox, along with hot cinders.

You really don't want to do that. It's not simulated in the game yet but you could damage the cylinders and running gear horribly and blow the cylinder heads off doing that at speed regardless of what fuel the engine uses. They did that as a norm when trains were running at like 25mph and slower on average and had no air brakes. After that it's kind of a last ditch effort to stop the train when all else failed

It's not like oil burners are exclusive to american engines or anything
