Derail Valley

Derail Valley

Sharing new ray tracing feature screenshots
I am very interested in how the new ray traced global illumination looks in Derail Valley. My laptop I'm stuck with until the end of the month only has a GTX 970M, so I can't test it myself yet.

Anybody have screenshots showcasing this new feature, or in a perfect world a before / after comparison?

Thank you to anyone willing to spend a few minutes to share with us here.

I wasn't able to take screenshots with ray tracing enabled. I VNC-ed onto my computer from a different computer and screenshoted the screen from there.
The shadows look REALLY neat. I'll try to get a better/prettier shot after I play the game a bit with the new setting.

does anyone have any settings to use. I tried it but have no idea where to set the sliders so it just looked like trash lol

before/after ray tracing:
https://i.postimg.cc/CFQxCjhR/2d.webp - the dark is even darker
https://i.postimg.cc/GLThXHtq/2b.webp - dials have a real nice shade to them
https://i.postimg.cc/kMrMzqt9/2c.webp - hello sunshine :D
https://i.postimg.cc/XWtvpc1h/2a.webp - another job delivered
https://i.postimg.cc/NYTjT9W0/2e.webp - 800t+ uphill with 2 shunters should work? it didn't :D

Also, this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p94nwHbD8gI
F12 for normal screenshots
Alt+F1 for screenshots with ray tracing
Alt+Z for capturing video with ray tracing

I guess I <3 ray tracing in DV: deeper shadows, warmer sun rays, detailed shadows under the lights ... I'm keeping it.

Looks no difference to me apart from extra darkness and a hit to performance lol

People keep posting these kind of shots, i see no diff either. Still the Emperor should show off his new clothes i guess. Hope they give someone pleasure :)

In case anyone is still interested, some videos with ray tracing filter turned on:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaEuBz7gYdk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUaXnkQiSuY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYQ2qEmBSDc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=re_3-n_DUJU

In video #2 the difference between ray tracing being ON and OFF can be seen at:
1:05 - strobing shadows, ray tracing was shutting off and on
2:30 - I disabled ray tracing
2:50 - I enabled ray tracing again
7:05 , 13:33 , 16:12 - ray tracing disables while thumbing through the map book

If you can't tell which is which:
- darker means ray tracing = ON
- lighter means ray tracing = OFF
