Starting tutorial: leave train turned on?

So I'm doing the first tutorial, brought one car to the Steel Mill. I parked the train inside the shed with the car attached. I now go to the turntable to get a different locomotive.

But I turned all the switches off and I still hear my original train's engine running.

Is this a bug or is there some way to turn off the train that I thought I did but haven't done it?

Not sure if this will help you but I took a while to figure one thing out. I'm playing with a mouse/kb. Most of the time I use the wheel to adjust brakes, throttle, switches etc. However, if you drag them with the LMB you can get better on/off control, including the engine starter switch. It'st the only way I could turn the engine starter switch off.

After the Simulator update, locomotive engines have a Fuel Cutoff button somewhere on the control panel (for the DE2 it's next to the wipers and sander button on the center console). Pre-Simulator it was possible to shut down engines by turning off the breaker switches, but now you need to use the fuel cutoff button.

Turning switches off won't cut off fuel to the diesel engine. For that you have to press the fuel cutoff button. On the starter DE2 this button is near the wiper switch.
