There is a nice map editor out as a mod right now, called Mapify, in which it is possible to build your own terrain, rail layout etc, in the Unity engine editor.
Nice, thank you for the input. A map editor for modders is such a great tool, as that possibly means a lot more custom content for this game in the future.
That DLC also sounds very interesting to me. I really like these US power horse freight trains. I think this hasn't been adapted too well in any other sim yet. Probably gonna' be fun in this game.
- The current map is planned to receive 16 new locations, and tracks will be made more straight at certain parts, among other changes
- There will be a new map made as DLC in the future, and likely more later
Sounds absolutely great. A game like DV can't have enough content like this imho as it means just more time to spend with in the long run.
Honestly I would love to just see the DLC get added to the current map, to make it as huge as possible instead of seperating them. Having a huge connected open world with different terrain would make an absolute unique experience and selling point in the train sim genre. And it's probably best for replayability as well.
I know this would mean additonal work on the border design of the various maps to create a fluid transition of the different terrain, but would probably be absolutely worth it in the end. Imagine having to go from that mountain area through some wide flat lands and deep forests, into dry steppes!
Probably a complex task, but that would just be a dream come true. Of course a matter of how well the engine will be able to handle this.
It's technically not possible without separating the maps, but it's planned to have tunnels/ferries at each map side that can be used to travel to another map (with a loading screen in-between). This too is stated at the /future page.
One thing I really would love to have is like an express route between 2 capitols, with a high speed connection. Probably annoying to make as it should be a long route and people will just fly through, but damn it would be fun to approach a station with 100 km/h and forgetting to break in time ^^
Agree, would be nice to have some sections where we'd be able to just enjoy the ride for a while.
Ah damn, I knew my expectations were just too high for this to become true. But what you say sounds like the perfect compromise. Anyways looking forward to these map additions and the DLC. That US theme def hooks me up.
Thanks.
any plans for double rail lines, signals and other traffic ?
