I found that if I was playing on realistic at least, then the laser had to have a clear line of sight to the signal - any part of the train (apart from the windows) or a tree or anything in the way, didn't work.

I had the same issue after installing Mod Manager and the VR zoom mod. I'm not sure which was causing it, but the remote worked again after uninstalling both mods...

I also had that problem with the mod manager. Turns out it was just a mod menu screen showing up on my computer screen overlaid on the game, but not visible in VR. The only effect was to make it impossible to operate switches with the remote.

Just clicking it on on your computer screen is enough to solve the issue.

You're getting better advice than I got when I asked. I got treated like I was an idiot and was told to do the tutorial again (which the developers marked as the correct answer, no less).

mikecash has the answer, it is the Mod Manager options screen on the monitor. Just close it and it works again.

You're exaggerating. With the amount of information you provided in the OP, tutorial was the proper suggestion. No one treated you like an idiot. It was marked the correct answer before you provided further information. People switching over from PC sometimes don't know that Trigger+Joystick Left/Right is the way to scroll on items and it sounded like that's the issue you're having.

Here's the thread for reference:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/588030/discussions/0/6869728541344459796/

Also, people don't assume you have mods until you say so, and reporting issues with mods without stating that you have any makes life complicated for us devs too. On almost every mod on Nexus, including the Skin Manager one, the author clearly stated with big yellow letters:

"Note: Do not report bugs to the developers of the game if you are using mods!"

I'll make a pinned post clarifying this.

You exaggerate yourself. I didn't report a bug to the developers. I didn't ask anything of the developers whatsoever. You injected yourself unsummoned.

You were wrong; doing the tutorial was not the correct answer. That's the extent of my gripe with the developers.

And you're welcome for my providing the answer for the next time this comes up, by the way.

First of all, I'm clarifying that "I got treated like I was an idiot" is an inaccurate statement, and no one in that thread treated you as such.

Second, "inject myself unsummoned" is to be expected, since I moderate this forum and it has its rules. The rules state to not report bugs if you have mods (or at least to inform if you have them), whether a thread was pointed to me or not. This saves people's time when helping anyone out.

Again, I marked it the answer correct before you provided information that you have mods. If you didn't have mods, it would've been the correct answer for the reasons I explained earlier.

I vigorously disagree.

Telling somebody who was previously perfectly able to do the single simplest thing in the game to go back and do the tutorial to learn how to do it again is the epitome of treating them like an idiot. The developers weren't the ones who told me to do it, but you certainly endorsed it. Just what was it about redoing the tutorial that you expected to result from that if not my "relearning" how to do it after having been stupid enough to forget it?

I did not "report a bug". I did not contact the developers. I asked fellow players for input. The fact that you moderate and are apparently high on your status doesn't make everything that happens here all about you. So either step up and answer ALL questions from everybody on everything like this is the AltFuture Support Desk or get off your high horse and quit acting like you own the place just because you are a moderator.

EDIT:

And another thing.....

I wasn't running ANY mods.

At this point you're asking me to repeat what I already said in my previous post (read the second part of it):

I don't know where you're going with this or why are you being hostile, but it sure doesn't make anyone feel good to be around. I do in fact own the place and actually, here's a ban for a month and please think twice next time before arguing with people for no reason.

And another thing.....

I wasn't running ANY mods.

You literally said "Turns out it was the Unity Mod Manager interfering." and that too is a mod in itself.
Niar Aug 14, 2023 @ 1:13pm
It was indeed the mod manager window.
