Where's the train at?
I'm starting a new game, new career,realistic mode, day one install. I hit go and it spawns me between two train cars a good way from where i (eventually) managed to figure where the "base" was.
Sweet... i thought. Go inside, no Tutorial messages, no "why don't you try this" stuff. Just the job cards. I can pick up and accept any and all jobs, all licenses are acquired and, my favourite bit - there's no loco to drive. Anywhere.

I've deleted the career save of course and had another crack at it uninstall, restart, made sure the plug is in the PC... Same deal, a few times.
On a scale of 1 to Road Rash, how dumb am i being?

You're not dumb at all. I would try to help, but I don't exactly remember if I had a tutorial at the beginning, but I do remember a small Loco called a DE2 being in the starter shed. Actually, I do remember a tutorial. Maybe realistic mode has the tutorials turned off?

the game starts by placing you at a small rail shed just outside of the steel mill, if you have the tutorial enabled. It'll then guide you through a series of steps to familiarise you with the DE2 and the basics of the game. This ends with you being in the Steel Mill station building to pick your first job and it asks you to select your difficulty.

If the tutorial is disabled, it should start you in the steel mill station building, with the job desk in front of you having already selected your difficulty before beginning the career session.

What was not intuitive for me were the use of F1, F2, F2 and interaction with F4 HUD and functions. Also, use of ALT key is important for the newbie as is F2 in relationship with movement keys. (I ran several jobs before I realized you can move to end of train and still be drving the loco.) I went through the tutorial but it did not seem to cover those things. Or else I was sleeping at the time.

I am not sure what you want. If you want the tutorial, just put in the little mark in the start screen and you get tutorial. You can then select the difficulty after the tutorial.
If you dont want the tutorial, you can select the difficulty right away, and find out evrything by yourself. So if i tell you where the locomotives are, thats a spoiler and you started without tutorial to find out all by yourself without getting spoilerd? Ok, ill black it out.


spawn on the track of steel mill and can walk to the engine which are parked at the turntable. you can find it east of starting point. check the steel mill schmatic map in your schematic map booklet

@Bourbons Have you had any results following the comments above? What you described in the original post is not how the game works, so I'm confused trying to understand how you got in that situation and what you can do about it.
