Tip what to do if you can't find loco you want
I hope this helps someone, I run into this question several times over the internet and found no useful answer. I had an issue, bought license for DM3 and teleported literally to every station on the map and DM3 was nowhere to find. I revisited those stations, but the same locos were there, they did not respawn (I heard they respawn after few hours of not using it), so I stuck in a world with DM3 for a while.

And I found a fix. DM3 is known to spawn at least in Harbor or Steel Mill, so I chose Harbor. I visited Harbor's loco house, where there were always 4 locos. I used my remote, to remove all 4 locos for 0$ and teleported few hundred meters away (over water to the other side of bay) and then back (took like 10-15 seconds) and new locos were spawned on places, where I removed them. It took like 5 tries, but DM3 finally spawned for me.

So universal tip - if you don't see any loco you want, just remove it with remote, get a bit far and return for a new RNG spawn :)

Just wanted to let you know this post helped me immensely. It's wild how hard it is to find the train you *bought* in this game. They really need some sort of train spawner (for those of us playing simulation mode) instead of leaving it up to chance like this.

Glad I could help. I think the main problem is, there randomly spawned locos are also subject to be kept for 2 hours. I think it would be helpful if locos you never used would respawn in much shorter time, like 5 minutes.

I believe limited availability of the loco spawns are a game mechanic to challenge the player from station to station so you never get too comfortable. True?

Hard to say. But in my case, I went to every station in game (valley if you want) and DM3 was nowhere. That doesn't seem challening nor realistic.

Thats fair

On the other hand, if we would like it to be really realistic (I would vote for this to be custom difficulty option), game can spawn fixed amount of every loco in whole valley (to be guaranteed that every loco is somewhere in certain amount) and simply not despawn locos, never. So where you leave it, it will be there. If you will pile up all DE2 in one station, your problem.

The DM3s are all in use by the same ghost operators that rearrange station loads while we're away.
