A dashboard compass will rotate and only show you which direction your going.

I think you should check to make sure you're reading the compass correctly.

In short, the red arrow always points north, so you rotate the compass so the N lines up with the arrow. Then you know which way you are facing (north), and which way you need to turn to face east/west/south. The arrow does not point to the direction on the compass face that matches the direction you are facing.
This is proper compass functionality and entirely intended, and the in-game compass works properly on my end.
Like any real magnetic compass its needle (even marked with an "N" for North) always points to the north !
Its a 3d Game in a 3d World. I dont see a problem at all.
If people have problems by assumptions based on modern technology they would be well advised to finally learn physics.
DV is very good and educative in this regard btw ;-)
I mean, you are right though. Normally, if I was holding this type of compass in the real world, I would just turn it so the N on the card lines up with the needle. But since you can't actually do that in this game without turning your whole body around, it can be a little misleading, especially for people who don't understand compasses in the first place. But even if you do, you still have to kinda visualize turning it in your head instead of being able to actually physically turn it in the game. It would be better if it had a rotating card with a fixed needle, I think.
So I guess the only thing wrong with the one in the game is that it's not a real physical compass, so you can't turn it to get the reference card to match the actual direction you are facing as one would expect to be able to do.
That being said, I don't usually use the compass in the game anyway, so it really hasn't presented a huge hindrance for me. But I can see why it would be if one relies upon it.
But you can rotate the compass with your hand controllers in VR. So it's really just a PC flat screen issue.
