VR Experience Not The Best
not trying to bash the game in any means, but it seems all the new stuff was focused for pc and not vr. The fact vr dosent have a frame limiter, not is the graphics optimized like on desktop. I would love to see the game fixed for vr and a limiter added my pc is trying to run the game at unlimited fps which is causing it to die, along with the none optimized graphics or textures. Theres graphics flickering along with just some textures being broken with vr.
Honestly feels you made it bare minimum for vr, to put it simply the game runs like ♥♥♥♥ in vr, with weird glitches and bugs not seen in desktop to the game killing it self and the frame drops not even from your pc the game just tries to end itself.
It's honestly kind of sad im more than happy to play on desktop but most my hours were spent in vr and was hoenstly expect vr to be better and everything is worse besides the controls are a bit smoother in vr gameplay but besides that playing the game in vr at this moment is not worth it.
I'm not the only one having these issues either a buddy of mine is also having these issues with a 4070 and 120GB of ram
I don't know what was done but i do know vr is screwed

Thank you for reading my rable

but the game runs at the frame rate of your headset so what do you mean by frame rate limiter?

my headset was running 68fps and the game was running 12
and that also dosent account for the broken textures

i have index and rtx3070, everything on max and game works very well. Only little shutter during 5 sec after loading the game.

could be the cpu bottleneck? what is your cpu?

Frame limiters don't make sense in VR. It's a desktop thing for flatscreen displays without vsync, or vsync and triple buffer.

In VR you either run synchronised with the headset or at a lower FPS with reprojection. It's all enforced and controlled by the VR driver.

The graphics flickering could be re-projection. Most headset drivers have relatively good re-projection technology and it's seamless most of the time. But there's are some situations that are hard or impossible to deal with, like standing on a moving train looking out a side window for example. The stationary train (relative to the virtual camera) and moving background will cause flickering or streaking along the edges.

Sorry you're having issues, OP, but for me, the experience in VR is completely the opposite. Before the simulator update, I had major issues with VR performance in this game, mostly with really bad stuttering, especially in the cab of a loco, which was not just unpleasant, but nearly unplayable. After I upgraded to a 13700K, and running an RTX 3080, it was much improved, but I still had to turn most graphic options down or even off. But now, with this new update, I can turn most options up and the VR experience is very smooth, with almost no detectable stuttering. It's fantastic!

My only gripe is that the VR hands are way out in front of my controllers and not aligned with them correctly, but I know this game is still a work in progress, so I'll submit a report and live with it for now.

How do you run it in open xr? I've only ever used steamvr

Do you have hdd connected? Sometimes when windows runs out of RAM it uses hard drive, it can kill the fps. I had this issue, my hdd was at 100% even game was on SSD. Also windows 11 slows everything

I'll second it's probably a CPU bottleneck. I've found a lot of VR games seem to care more about CPU than GPU (or some, equally as much). When I went from i7-7700 to i7-11700, it was a completely different experience without any change to the GPU on a lot of games. I'm having no trouble with Simulator.

i run it on a quest 2 with virtual desktop on 90HZ and it runs smooth and fast no stuttering at all

I've got a 2080 TI and Even on all the lowest settings, the GPU maxes out and the game stutters. It makes me sad and I wonder if I'm doign somethign wrong.

Well,
If i understand it right, 12 fps and texture issues ? i got this right ?
i suspect there is may something more in play, drivers up to date ? bios settings, or may your os system make something wierd. i am pretty sure you checked this stuff already,

you tried also this ? (hope its not considers as spam ^^)
Paste and Copy from an other Thread:

That OpenVR_FSR is outdated, you should use newer ones from the same person:
https://github.com/fholger/vrperfkit

i suggest you give them a try. i personally use that old Version

https://github.com/fholger/openvr_fsr

otherwise a bugreport, with the log to altfuture ?

with that am with my 2070 on high setting and it run and looks pretty well. some quirks here and there, but nothing concerning...

[Edit - see post #32 for an update to this]

I used the previous version on an i9 9900K/2080Ti combination where performance was decent with the graphic settings that I liked--though I did need to use openvr_fsr to get it running well. A few weeks ago I upgraded to a 13900K/4090 which has been a total game-changer in almost everything I've tried so far--but in DV Simulator I'm still getting basically the same performance and appearance as before with little to no meaningful improvement where I would have expected to have seen a stunning bump in performance like I've seen elsewhere. So something seems to be bogging it down. I have a Pimax Crystal on its way in a few weeks that will do OpenXR along with eye-tracked foveated rendering (I expect to re-purpose my VP2 for wireless only), so I'm hopeful that will be better optimized for DV; but for now on my VP2 and 4090, it seems not so hot in the performance dept.
