Derail Valley

WE NEED TO CHANGE CONTROLS
you must have an option to change your controls so people can actually play the game. i cant complete the tutorial with the new update because F2 decreases the volvume on my computer and i cant change the controls for external view. I do not recomend the game because of this as this can make the game a huge waste of money

Go into your options, then advanced then "keybinds"
Or you can also change it off-line by going into your %appdata% ->LocalLow\Altfuture\Derail Valley\Preferences

At the point where you should go to external view with F2 before entering Steel Mill the loco applies power.

It looks like you have a keyboard with media controls. Could the "Fn" key modifier be locked?

Edit:

Thanks, I've got open the .ini. In the game I couldn't open the control settings, intead of that a blank text file was opened.
Now I try to set the controls matching mostly to Zusi.

Settings > Advanced > Remap Keyboard Controls
I've tried the remap keyboard controls option several times and it never saves my changes. I save the text file, I click apply, and then it goes right back to not saving. I wasn't able to find the file itself within the directories and just change it manually like I did in Overhauled. Have any of you been able to successfully change the controls?

bro you have a media keyboard, the 'fn' key will modify the usage of function keys (f1-f12) hold fn key then press the f2 key it will work. this is not a problem with the game but design of your keyboard

in vive VR, in tutorial, commands are display'd as keyboard keys'. if it wasn't for i new controllers commands, i would have been lost. like using remote to change switch setting- tutorial say's hit 'trigger' to change switch, but learned before that 'trigger' drops what you are holding...

Dear Vortex,
i tried to change my keyboard settings too. I saved in the editor, opened the settings with the game again. keyboard bindings were fine.

i loaded a saved game. the new settings didnt work. i go back to the start screen, opened the keybindings again and i saw the default keybindings. my settings are gone.

its not a big things for me, i use the default keybindings. but this should be fixed.

Are you playing on a laptop? Do you have a Function (fn) key you can press at the same time as you press F2?

I am running into a similar situation. It is frustrating that everyone tells us where to find the option, but nobody will confirm that it works or explain what we're doing wrong. I assume it's a bug and will get fixed, for now I'm going to learn the new driving UI I think. It is really anxiety inducing trying to manually pull levers etc. for me, I just can't play that quickly. Worst case scenario I can play on easy mode waiting for a patch.

I've the solution:
You edit the config file, save, copy it to (for example) your desktop and then start the game. While being in the main menu you copy (not move!) the file back to the Preferences folder. After that you load your save.

What doesn't work: Edit the file and write protect it to prevent the game from overwriting it. If you do that the game hangs up in the main menu, you can only quit with Alt+F4.

Many laptop manufacturers have decided that you don't need functions keys, and turned them into volume control and such. See if you can find Fn lock function (usually in bios), and turn that on (or off if it's on). That will fix the volume control problem.

Remapping keybinds through the UI is currently bugged, and AltFuture is aware and looking into it.

But you can just edit the keybinds file when the game is not running, just as before this update. The file to edit is C:\Users\YourNameHere\AppData\LocalLow\Altfuture\Derail Valley\Preferences\000_Player.ini (AppData is sometime hidden by default, I forget the trick to see it).

You can usually find the name of the key or mouse button somewhere in that file, as almost every key is bound now.

I have an HP Gaming Laptop and as such it defaults to Fkeys, and require you to use Fn key to use the dual functions. Someone at Microsoft hates the concept of PCs being used for games, and thinks all games should only be on consoles. They even went a short time where they prevented Steam from working within Windows without hacking it. The uproar was massive. From just one client/drm. MS imagined that many PCs being sold with Linux or no OS instead of Windows, and the massive amount of $$ hit they'd take, MS's vision didn't mean a damn thing anymore, but the consumer's vision. As such they very quickly remedied the situation.

Companies making decisions to make gaming difficult? Kick them where it hurts and in the only place they care... their bottom line. Only buy from companies that listen and improve on gamer experience and usability. HP's first gaming laptop was crap. Half-sized (especially WASD) keys are a ♥♥♥♥♥. But they listened to gamers. Improved upon it. It's unfortunate you've got a crap laptop that won't let you, the user, decide how those keys work natively... but you do know to never buy from them again.

Yes, since you are required to be signed in to play any Steam game, it is DRM software, which is why individual Publishers being redundant is asanine.

Changing the keybinds via the Notepad file worked for me. It looks like it should but for now the program does not save the changes. You have to do it manualy.
