Quest 2 Performance OpenXR: SteamVR vs Oculus
I initially launched through Steam VR using Virtual Desktop. I though the performance impact was due to streaming. I stopped streaming but it was still quite bad even after turning down settings to a mix of medium and low. Still a crazy high GPU load (3080ti 95%+ load and 10GB+ of 12GB Vram) Average 45 fps or so with reprojection rate at ~45%.

I changed over from Virtual Desktop to Air Link and launched with OpenXR set to Oculus in the Oculus Settings. Ran muuuch smoother with better clarity too on high settings.

Curious to hear if other Quest 2 users have the same experience.

Hey Josh!

Could you please elaborate how did you manage to launch with OpenXR set (second method of the launch you've described)?

I have the same insane stutters and low memory errors on my Oculus Quest 2 with SteamVR running via virtual desktop. On the desktop (without VR) everything works perfect.

On the Oculus Desktop App open Settings > General > OpenXR Runtime (Set Oculus as active).

In your Quest connect to your PC via Link or Air Link. Once connected open your desktop view, open your steam library, and click Play on Derail Valley. Select the "Launch Derail Valley in Oculus VR Mode".

it does seem better like that, how do you monitor performance though? the overlay you can enable with the debug tool is pretty limited
