Lighter disappeared
Hey Guys, i made a stop with the Steam Locomotive at the Western Iron Mine.
Loaded it and fired it up, when i threw the lighter in it disappeared completly from my inventory.

I thought i could buy it at the next Shop, but there was no one to be found, in the Lost and Found Cabin at the next stop ( The city between west and east iron mine, pretty north) was also no finding of it.
Does it respawn only on the station where it`s lost? Or how the hell do i get a new one?

Thanks for your help =)

I believe lost items should appear in any lost + found shed, but that system doesn't seem to work 100% right yet.
To get the lighter back (or any other basic item you may lose entirely) open the console ( ' key on english keyboards, may be ~ on others) and use the command player.giveessentialitems to receive a new set of them.

There appears to be an issue with this, but we can't replicate it. We're looking for someone with this problem to send us their savegame so that we can investigate it and find a solution.

What we'd expect (and what tests suggest should happen) is that your items are there in the world (on the ground), but not far enough from the player to respawn to the shed. Going further from the shed and coming back should fix this, in theory. The minimum distance from items to respawn has been reduced from 600m to 200m in the last build, #65.

If that is some of the issue it would make sense to have the game fetch items not in inventory to the shed when the player enters, as well as placing them there with the current range based rule. At the very least it should help indicate if that is/was a large part of the issue, but also makes sense as an ongoing feature rather than players having to telebounce out of a station and back again should they genuinely misplace items.
It also doesn't explain how we can end up with no items in the first place when loading into the game, which was certainly how I ended up with an empty inventory the other day. The only way I can imagine that they would have been lost but not-lost in that manner would be if they had all been dropped from inventory at some stage during loading, after being moved from the tutorial building to last saved position but before loading had completed enough for the ui to be visible, AND they had also fallen through the locomotive floor to end up on the ground, otherwise I expect I would have seen them in the loco.

Same thing just happened to me. Spawned at the steel mill. Except for the station and lost & found no buildings appeared and the inventory was empty. Closed the game again and sent my savegame to OneDrive: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ah6va-xfmqVshdZBtSUXY4_hMrkQcQ

For me it fixed itself, i pressed accidentaly the button again where it has been in the toolbar(no vr version), and it reappeared, pressed tab again and it showed up like it has never been missing.
So it has been there all along probably, just not visible on my toolbar.

Well i probably could get my savegame online, but i dont know if its now any use or not.

Thanks for the help guys

Thank you for the savegame Blokker_1999! It appears the issue you had is not related to the savegame however, but rather something else (considering that no buildings appeared). We've discovered some errors that may be related and will be fixing them in the next build.

Interesting, thanks Ärzschde, we'll look into this!

Hi ! I may have the same kind of problem but with the junction remote. After a respawn, I cannot find it anymore. I tried the command player.giveessentialitems with no luck. I visited the lost & found shed where I found a manual for the steam engine, but no remote. I also tried to visit another station & other locomotives with no more results.
Any suggestions ? I uploaded my savefile on wetransfer if it's any help for you.

Also thanks for the game, love it !

Thanks so much for the savegame and the description!

We just had a look at the savegame. There are 16 junction remotes, in a lost & found shed (due to using the player.giveessentialitems command).

When you went to the other stations, did you look in their sheds? Every station has one.

I have the same issue, Accidentally dropped my switch remote while en route outside while moving and it fell to the ground. I stopped the train but that small little item was well lost. So now I had to quit a mission due to dropping a critical part of hardware. I also looked in the lost and found at the station and could not find one. So other than using the console command, the game is over. Please fix this or put things like this on a tether.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I looked in their lost & found sheds also. Maybe I missed it ?
Should the player.giveessentialitems command not give you the junction remote directly in your inventory ?

Anyway I just restarted a game to play a bit more and everything is going well for the moment :)

The command should give you the new items directly into your inventory (it did so for me), but it sounds like Altfuture are describing the effects of it not also removing old items so they are potentially remaining in the world indefinitely. In the past the old items were all deleted before new ones were placed into the players inventory, I guess that's no longing working the same.

FWIW, I had the same problem, lost my entire inventory. I un/reinstalled Derail Valley, no change. Then I lost all the buildings at the Steel Mill, except the Station Office and the Lost and Found shed. I tried the player.giveessentialitems command, and got all but two items back , and the two remaining items were in the L&F shed, but still no buildings. I quit DV, and then started it from the Steam window menu under "Start Non-VR" item. At this point I did NOT get the splash about no VR detected/starting non VR, it just started the game with everything working normally, all the buildings came back, had all my inventory, etc. DV is running fine now, but I am still starting it from the Steam window menu, not from a desktop icon.

Yes. It didn't so far due to the command being deprecated after the item storage revamp. In the next build it will be updated and will work as expected - spawning essential items to your inventory as long as there's room, otherwise forcing them to L&F shed storage.

We're not sure yet why this is happening, but it did for a few players. Might be related to some errors that are getting fixed in the next update, otherwise we'll look into it more thoroughly.

now there are lost and found sheds. if you can't find it in there, press Esc and hit refresh lost and found. this will force all owned dropped items into the sheds.
