So after reading up i found you could clear the track by quitting the job.
That DID NOT work, derailed train is still blocking the line.
So I tried moving far away as suggested in another thread... BOOM!
Half of the train carriages are gone now. But the derailed engine and front carriage are still blocking the tracks.
So am i looking at a wipe my save restart cos if I am thats not great dudes!
restarted by wiping my save as another train derailed due to a bug and my debt was crazy.
Got first job and half way round at lower than recommended speed the middle carriage derailed. Everything else was fine. BUT NOW because i paid the fee to rerail when i try to hand in the job it says job in progress due to missing carriages. ALL THE CARRIAGES ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE.
About had enough of this game right now.
If you have the funds to rerail the locomotive, you can do so, and continue using the locomotive.
If the locomotive is damaged, and you haven't bought many licenses yet, you can go to any career manager around the Valley and pay your starting deductible of 100$ to repair any/all damage, and clear your debts. Note that this does not rerail things, as you've found out.
The only way to clear the track is by clearing or rerailing the cars yourself, but you also can throw the job away, and travel quite a far distance (say, teleporting around the map), and the cars should clear out afterwards.
As for the question about saves, the game keeps automatic backups made periodically while you play. These can be found in the same place as your savefile, and they're named according to date and time. Simply rename or delete the current 'savegame' file, and rename the backup you wish to revert to to 'savegame', and it should work.
Please, feel free to join the Official Discord Server[discord.gg] where you can find plenty of players who can also help you with any questions. They're quite a nice bunch!
I tried this by travelling away (not teleporting cos i didnt' have any cash by that point) and it didn't work. Also teh amount of debt i was in it wasn't even trying to get that debt down as teh costs of running the train are WAY WAY more than $100 once you buy your first extra licence (shunting in my case) to the point i'm not even sure if you can actually make money. Even using the self maintenance which obviously costs yet another fee for another licence.
All I wanted to do was drive trains but the game doesn't seem interested in actually letting you do that...
And also no i don't wanna join discords anymore, sorry.
To answer the original question - yes, if a track is blocked by a derailed train, you need to go around it until it is cleared (automatically over time, or manually for cash).
As for your playing style, I'd recommend waiting for the 2021 major update and practicing a bit in sandbox mode without worrying about fees and derailments.
Thanks for the feedback.
Nah, wasnt' touching brake when it happened. Was going slow too.
No matter will restart when i reinstall it after another few updates.
As for the comments about it being easy to make money erm thats assume you dont' end up with three trains derailing due to bugs... In fact its mildly insulting mr dev, almost like you are suggesting i'm incapable. I was making money up til the bugs hit... BUt not much when compared to the running costs once you unlock a few licences. I think it might possible to not be able to earn enough to cover your costs even if you get good at coasting (which is really easy to get good at... don't pretend its hard, i found very easy... hell the only difficulty the game offered WAS THE BUGS...) but unfortunately its not like I could test it out, due to being derailed multiple times...
No such suggestion was intended. I only said that it's not difficult based on hearing and watching hundreds if not thousands of other players' feedback over the years through various channels, and my own experience both as a player and the designer of the game's mechanics.
I'm not negating that you experienced bugs with derailments, however. Actually, I'd like to ask if you remember being outside of the train and teleporting around when the derailments occurred? We have a lead that suggests doing so could lead to bugged derailments. It's not certain yet, but that's something that we think could be the case. In general there are very few people mentioning issues with derailments, and it seems to affect only very specific people/playstyles. I personally haven't experienced any unexpected/random derailments since the Overhauled update was launched back in May (when the derailment simulation was remade), so I hope your feedback will help us pinpoint the cause.
this can be found in your steam folder under derailcalley_data -> SaveGameData
deleting the file savegame and replacing it with one of the backups will save you a lot of pain
