Derail Valley
No money to Rerail. Is it game over?
What happens when I don't have money rerail or clear the track after derailing? If I teleport (not fast travel, no money for that either) my way to the nearest station how can I clear the track if I want run that same mission again?

Nope, you can just ignore the train and head to the nearest station. Get a new locomotive and do jobs.

Once you have the money, you can rerail the train but do expect fees on that job
Also if you decide to abandon it you don't need to use the remote to clear the cars from the track either (unless they're directly in your way of completing another job) cuz when you walk away from the cars and abandon the job booklet the cars will despawn on their own (and locomotives despawn after 2 hours of not being used).
Basically just bin the job and avoid the section of line for a couple of hours.
What if you don't have the Concurent jobs license yet?

Throw the job booklet in a bin in a station office to abandon it. You should be able to take a new one, then.
Hmm, thanks for the replies. I think they should give you a bit of a safety net for first-time derailers, like a bit more cash to start with. It was literally my first derail on my very first mission EVER and I felt helpless after it happened.
I think you have to throw the job book in a dumpster to get rid of it?

Just last update (on Friday) we added a dialog box that pops up when you first derail, explaining what to do. Did it not pop up? Also all you need to pay is the $100 copay to get rid of all fees (and you start with $2000), so there should be plenty of safety net on both communication and money.

Actually, so you do copays at stations right? So I could have fast traveled to a station and pay it there? Then manually teleport to where I derailed?

I think I see where the confusion happening... Ammy is trying to use the remote to rerail the derailed cars and complete the job but does not have enough money to pay to have the cars put back on the track, correct?

If that is the case, then I believe the best course of action would be to teleport to the nearest station and abandon the current job as has been suggested above. You do indeed need to have a bit of a cash reserve in order to pay the immediate rerail costs in order to finish a derailed job.

Ammy: just chuck the job book in the office waste bin or the dumpster next to the lost and found, pay your $100 copay for whatever damage was caused and take a brand new job.

Thanks for the info. What happens to the locomotive after doing that?
If the loco is still on the track you should be able to manually teleport back to it and drive off with it. If it is derailed then it should despawn after a while. If it is derailed and blocking the track, make sure to avoid that section for a couple of hours. (I'm pretty sure this is how it works but not 100%; maybe Altfuture can confirm?)

I just had my first derail and nothing popped up for me, So I'm either waitting around in game doing nothing for a few hours(not happening) or starting over.

There should be no need to wait around: ditch your current job --> pay your copay --> grab new locomotive --> go!

You can find a fresh DE2 at most stations.

Good to know, thanks. But if it's someones first derail ever I honestly think it's easier to just delete your save file and start over lol. That's just me though. Save $100 bucks too.

Edit: By first derail I mean someone who has never completed a job yet, and is still sitting at $2000.

Fair enough, you should play the game however you like :) But I think there's value in sticking with it and learning from your mistakes. Personally I quite enjoy figuring out where I went wrong and what I can do to get back on top of things.

In another post I described how I derailed my first ever job with the steam engine causing over $200,000 in damage!! Thankfully the copay was only about $20,000 but that was most of my money (since I had just bought the steamer license). It was fun to figure out what combinations of jobs would refresh my account quickly.

Seriously, $100 is nothing in this game; pretty soon you'll be making $10,000 for around 10 minutes of shunting...

Anyway, happy training!
