Primer?
Hey Folks,

I know that it adds fuel to the engine and the engine spools up :tacho: but my question is:
Is the primer on the big Diesel-Locomotive a "just for fun-feature" or is there a deeper meaning ?

In my experience, the Primer is just a "for fun" feature in DV. All it does is spool the engine up. The DE6 will always start and have no issues without touching the primer.

The primer sets the fuel under pressure (injection) (edit: or the oil pump for pre lube) and it's not only for fun. You can see it here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUEl9IkNmM4
(The big diesel in the game is a typical EMD loco)

Newer locos have also an autostart where you don't neeed to do it manually or the start switch does that, see below (German BR218 in double traction, at first the 2nd loco is autostarted, then the 1st manually, at first you hear the oil pump, then with flicking the switch to far right the fuel pump, the starter is switched automatically after fuel pressure is high enough): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtkcRFrthIY

With running engine oil and injection pumps are running over the engine and not electrical.

Thx for your answer but the point is:
"do u really need it in DV"
"is there a deeper meaning"
"can something go wrong if i just ignore the primer ingame"

I think there is no need to use it at this time in the developement of the game.
