steam locomotive sounds are PHENOMENAL STILL
I just want to express my happiness that nobody "wrecked" the sounds of the steam locomotive in the latest update....so glad because they are so darn perfect now I think , although I've not gotten much over 15 kph...or so on a run.... but the chuffs, clanks, rail sounds etc are amazing especially under headphone or stereo.... I would love a bell, and that odd "buzzing" most steam trains make, also the "panting' when sitting idle, as I think that is some air compressor or something... I dunno, but out of any train sim this has the best sounds bar none ....

after 30 km / h, the sounds are unnatural, similar to howling wind.
in the previous version, the sounds were different.

Unfortunately (or Fortunately, depending), the sounds will likely be updated at some point. I personally think that some of the sounds are a bit off, but my main problem with them now, at least the stack exhaust, is that you can't hear them clearly just 1-2 cars away from the locomotive, even when working hard (the in-game sounds don't really carry well, like real locomotive exhaust tends to when working hard).

The buzzing will probably be added when they get the headlight system working, as well as the improvements to the Steam Locomotive they have planned, as that buzzing sound is actually the Steam Dynamo (Electric Generator) that powers the internal gauge lights and the headlights. The panting sound is the Compressor for the Air Brakes (note: vacuum brake systems did not have this puffing sound when idle) which is a steam piston system (either simple: one steam cylinder with one air cylinder; or cross-compound: a double expansion system with two steam cylinders (one high-pressure, one low pressure) and two air cylinders (high and low pressure as well)).

The howling wind sound just obscures the sounds of the locomotive, and this sound effect is present on every vehicle you could ride outside on. The Locomotive's sounds are still pretty much the same as the previous version with only minor differences.

(Sorry for the Double post)

Can confirm that this will likely be improved with the Steam Locomotive Improvements update.
