Is there a way to 'hack' the game and get more money?

I lost all my money when the update came out and I had a lot. Now I lost all of it and now I have to do more job then I would've before the update, to get the new train.

I don't get what the issue is exactly? It is a new gameplay, new physics, etc. so why not enjoying a fresh start to learn the new feel?

It is a game. A game is meant to be played.
But I think I get your point though: impatience.

I don't have patients to earn the money either. it is a tedious process and waste of time in my opinion. I don't cheat when I play FPS games but this type of games I do cheat myself. There is no wrong way to play games if you play single player mode and everyone is entitled to play as pleased. So, I prefer to start my new carrier in DV as a high funded startup company and have all licenses and whatever I need. Then, I can take any job I want and enjoy this game. Anyway, I started with $9,000,000 and here is how to get it:

- Install Cheat Engine - google and download and install.
- Run the game. If you play in VR run this game as non-VR for this. Now, Let's say you have in your wallet $2000.00
- MINIMIZE or press ALT+ENTER to exit full screen in DV
- Run CheatEngine (CE) and keep DV running in the background.

IN CE:
- From file menu "Open Process" and pick DerailValley.exe
- In the right panel change 'Value Type' to DOUBLE
- In the above field 'Value' enter the exact amount of money you have in your wallet. In this example enter $2000.00 (Note the decimal pint)
- Click above push button 'First Scan'. In a second or few, in the left upper panel you will see one line that will include the hex address of memory, Value, and Previous. Value and Previous should show the amount you just entered.
-Double click the line and this line should be copied to the bottom panel.
- In the line, double click on the Value and enter new value , i.e., $5000000.00 and press Enter.

Now switch to you game go and buy something. After the transaction is completed new amount of money will appear in you wallet. If DV crashes during this like 'not responding' shut it down through Task Manager and reopen the game. You should have new money in your wallet. Enjoy free ride.

What's the point of playing a sim/strategy game where the purpose is to make money and career progress to just jump straight to the top? It's like the old days of Transport Tycoon where you could cheat in $99,999,999 but I only ever did that once and abandoned that scenario as it felt pointless and empty.

actually the current game mechanics do not allow you to "reset" trains. That means I drive a long (18 Cars) one and in the middle a freight car unfortunately derailed :/ and rerailing costs around 8500$ but I dont own so much. because last maintanence/refuling/reparining riped me of now I am broke and I can´t finish my current job without cheating myself enough cash to rerail.

but for now I need to cheat the costs for rerailing.

The game is designed around the possibility that you won't be able to rerail your trains or pay your debt, it won't softlock: Just return to any station, drop the job in a bin, pay off whatever fees you can afford, and take a new job. You can cheat if you want to - it's a singleplayer game after all - but you do not need to cheat

Can't agree more. Early game sucks with earning money. Just go after the shunting jobs. And then when you run out take a freight haul job somewhere else, rinse and repeat. I now have 1.6 mil in the wallet with all licenses unlocked(except the 060) and I just don't worry about money and I take the challenging jobs or to locations I haven't been or routes I haven't taken. Granted I do cheat when I make a stupid mistake I just reload(Is this really cheating as I'm not playing on hardcore difficulty). I try not to when en-route cause most of my loads are very difficult to get moving and the only way to make it to the destination is to keep moving

I only do it when I pulling 2 or 3 long II jobs and put it down the wrong line on arrival. Sucks getting that much tonnage moving twice :P
