Full Controller support? How? (Solved - 6/8/2018)
I've recently picked this game up and tried using my xbox 360 controller [which does indeed work on my other games] and it sadly does not work anywhere in the 'main game.' But on the title screen it does a 'little' movement and such...but thats it. So my big question is - How can I get the game to play using my xbox controller. Thank You.

*UPDATE*
Finally got it to work.
Thanks to all of you who commented, and helped me out.
Much peace, love and bacon to you all for helping me out! :D

--> Had to enter
*'big picture mode'
*Click on the game in question (Okami)
*Manage Game Configurations
*Controller configuration

and it worked [Though to play with the controller I had to have the 'Big Picture Mode' active constantly buuut small price to pay]

it works fine

you may have turned down the settings or disabled it in steam control settings or overlay

ok, now the question is how to do it. I've looked through steam preferences, even for the controller and yet non of it makes sense on what i need to modify to let the game work with my controller.

Have you tried opening it from Steam's "Big Picture" mode (click the white controller icon in the upper right hand corner)? There are a few things you can try from there, such as controller setups, per-game configurations and more.

Hm, for me it worked pretty much right out of the box - it worked with Dualshock 4 with Playstation-style button prompts, and when I used DS4Windows to make it work as Xbox Controller it also worked, with correct Xbox-style button prompts. Looking at various threads with people having similar issues, usually the solution is to configure some stuff in Steam's settings. Try searching these steam forums and seeing if there's any specific instructions how to do it. I didn't have to fiddle with any Steam overlay/Big Picture settings so I wouldn't know...

right click on the game -> edit steam controller settings

templates -> gamepad
or recomended -> official 360

He said that he's using an Xbox controller, so no need to translate PS4 input into X-Input here. On a side note: The only way I can get MY PS4 controller to work in this game is to Start up the game with DS4windows enabled, Let the text box pop-up, saying basically "no no no, you can't have ds4windows and Steam config up at the same time", close ds4windows, continue, and then the game works with PS4 button icons and all!

I just wanted to point out that it should work in general with both Xbox and Dualshock controllers, the game does support them, it's just that for some reason it doesn't work in his case. Since there's plenty of threads on that issue, there's probably also some fixes to try listed there.

Just gave it a shot. Registered my controller in Big Picture mode and tried booting the game up from there. I couldn't skip the intro-cinnamatic. I could not select anything from the main menu. The only thing that seemed operational within the game, using my controller was the joy-stick. And before someone says 'maybe it's your controller' fear not, for I have tested it, and it works with other games...

When you say "Registered my controller in big picture", did you also make sure to assign a controller configuration in the Steam/Okami menu?

When you go into big picture and select the game , go to the left until you see the controller icon , and it should auto default to official settings. Just launch the game from there and you should be good. ( I know it's a pain in the ass, but it's a way to get it working )

I did the Big Picture Mode method, clicked Controller Layout then picked the "Official Layout for Okami HD - Official Setting [Normal Input]" then Play and it worked then I closed it.

I ran the game again without Big Picture Mode and I can still use the controller for some reason.
