Combat isn't very difficult, nor very fast. Over time you'll unlock some additional techniques (including dodging), but for the most part you'll be just using your main attacks to damage enemies. Some of them will also require you to use one of the brush techniques do damage them further.

For example, one of the first basic enemies can be hit a couple times, but then blocks your attacks for a while. You could wait until he stops blocking, or you can use your brush to destroy his defenses with a power slash technique. The enemies you meet later in the game might require different brush techniques to damage them or to simply make them easier to fight. Also, everytime you use your brush time stops until you finish drawing.

Overall combat is pretty fun and original, but gets a little repeatable after a while, so some people start skipping enemy encounters when they can.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I was worried I might have difficulty handling the combat as I cannot do action combat. I am not quick with my key presses.

The game looks gorgeous and I want to buy it .

I definitely recommend it, I played the PS2 version on an emulator years ago and back then it became my favourite game. Replaying it now on PC was awesome too, it didn't age at all ;) Also, it works just as well on a gamepad as it did before, but mouse and keyboard felt even better for me, so if you don't have a preference you might want to try both options.

The game is pretty easy overall, it's very rare for someone to die even once throughout the entire game. There are some fights that might be more difficult, but you can carry a looot of items to help you heal and damage enemies, so if you're having trouble you can simply do that.

No , you have to react like two years in advance , considering fps lock

Combat is easy, even if you are struggling just use the various consumable. You are not punished for it. I would recommend not spending praise on health, if people want some form of challenge.

I hadn't manage to even use up a single astral pouch and by the end of the game I accumalated 10+ golden peaches.

The real challenge is getting blossom rank especially among the bosses and miniboss where they expect you to finish the boss real quick, assuming you are not cheesing them with inkfinity. Unlike other capcom games you only have one shot to get the rank and its not even recorded.

Combat will get harder the further you get in the game, more difficult enemy start showing up where previously didn't. As long as you know their brush weakness its all very manageable.

There also secret challenges in the late game that can be very punishing.

Consider buying some stuff for demon fangs, though they do require you to know which enemies take which power as a floral finisher. But those items tend to be very helpful in general. As for combat it's quite intuitive and despite some enemies being harder or a bit faster the game isn't overly difficult when it comes to combat, it's actuallt very fun :)

Thanks for all the advice. I never try for ranks so no worries there.

Combat system is definetly faaar easier and less hectic, than in other CapCom games, like Bayonetta and DMC series, so don't worry, nobody asks of You to make some sick moves. Although, there are exist such a things like 3 Devil Gates Trials, and the fights in here are quite challenging compared to the other parts of the game. Some folks even consider those 3 trials (Me included) harder, than the final boss of the game, so there's that. Also, there is one fight that You can engage on Your own volition in the late game, if You will backtrack to Kusa Village. Though, all described fights are completely optional and needed only to get achievements and 4 stray beads, so they do not make any influence on the plot and can beignored completely.

the normal enemies are pretty fun to go against, each enemy is like a mini puzzle so you have to use the right techniques if you want to kill them fast otherwise you could ignore that and kill them slowly just using whatever you want, some enemies are more difficult to fight when a few show up too. in contrast the bosses i've fought so far are very boring in terms of actual fighting (nothing new, no choice in how to kill) but they push the story forwards so it doesn't really matter much.

Have a few Exorcism Slips in your bag though, while normally I'd cosider them to be a casual mode as you can effortlessly deal massive damage to all enemies, if it happens to you on an enemy you can't just figure out how to break their guard and it happens to be the fight you can't run from, you can avoid being stuck.
