It's different. There's no z-targeting and other moves associated to it such as slash attack, sideflip, backflip, crouch attack and many more. Let's say that amaterasu (the protagonist) is different than wolf link, and much more versatile (she can jump easily while wolf link can't without midna).
Combat isn't in open space like zelda, but in an small area whenever amaterasu touch a demon scroll. You can still escape from the battle though. It's best that you see some gameplay as my explanation might be a bit unclear.
Targeting is actually quite easy, as 1) weapons have big range and 2) amaterasu actually automatically targets to nearby enemies.
For controls, I definitely recommend that your mouse has extra buttons (macros) atleast three. This game is meant to be played on a controller originally, as such it can be awkward in pc.
I recommend binding enter, backspace, fleetfoot, brush, reset camera and sub weapon to mouse, the default bindings is uncomfortable as hell.
As why people associating this to zelda, it's because the gameplay in general is similar to zelda, like dungeons, items (brush techniques), 20 hearts maximum, some heart containers (sun fragments) and many more. However this game is more focused to the overworld than the dungeons, unlike zelda pre-botw.
So are you going to use that with a mouse? Keep in mind that using the brush requires you to hold atleast two buttons: one for activating the brush, and one for drawing. Hope those won't gonna cause you troubles then.
Yes I’ll use the mouse too. The brush activation key will be one of the button on the controller and I’ll then switch to the mouse (i can push the left mouse click ) to paint.
