Same engine as most of JRPG?
So I've been checking this game out after playing Ys: Lacrimosa of Dana and noticed that it have the same eninge. Just like a lot of games in this genre.
And I'm not saying it's bad, I like this kind of games. But I'm just wonder - what is this engine and why it's so common? Is it some kind of Japanese version of Unity and used because it's cheap and easy to manipulate?

The engine is called PhyreEngine. It is a free (to approved developers at least) engine developed by Sony, so I guess it would sort of be like Japanese Unity in that sense. It's not as readily available to just anyone though, so you don't see nearly as many games using it as you do in the case of Unity.

Tokyo Xanadu indeed runs on PhyreEngine like Trails of Cold Steel. However, OP, your deduction is wrong because Ys VIII uses the Yamaneko engine which is made by Falcom in-house. It probably has a lot of code in common with their other games, but the base is definitely different.

Yeah, I've been wrong about the same engine, but they are really similar. Even emotes above heads are the same.
Thanks for answers, guys.

I also noticed PhyreEngine is used in a lot of Compile Heart (Neptunia) games as well some older Atelier (but they've switched to Koei's engines in recent titles).

Compile heart dropped PhyreEngine in Neptunia VIIR as well as their newest PC release Death end re;Quest as you can see here and I really like that engine so far.

Both games were made by the same studio.
It's the reason why even emotes are the same.
