Cant decide between Star Ocean

I mean I like JRPG and I was thinking of buying this one or star ocean. ( waitng for nier auto.to be cheaper). The prices are between 16-18 usd if converted. Or just buy both ? lol I never played those two titles though. Can someoe share me their opinion about gameplay ?

You do realize that Tokyo Xanadu predates Ys VIII, right?

This is like saying that you thought FFVII was really phoned in by Square because FFIX looked so much better.

Tokyo xanadu feels like cold steel. Theres school, free time, only 1 base village, the char looks like cold steel char. The only major difference is the battle.

Just compare cold steel vs ys8. It feels like a completely different and feels like new game. But cold steel vs xanadu looks similiar

OP i played both a fair bit and i'd honestly say go for Tokyo Xanadu. Then again this might be biased since i really like the atmostpshere of the game that falcom made. The fact that they made each chapter to feel like an episode of an anime really helps too >.<.

If I was you I would take Tokyo Xanadu and wait later for Star Ocean.

For when it will be on sale for example.

Well. Star Ocean: TLH battle mechanic is similar to late "Tales of" series (Like Zestiria on PC for example), Tokyo Xanadu plays like Ys games, What you prefer? I bought both. Maybe you need to do the same.

This guy is a troll. Star oceans is 20% off. So its 13 dollars.
This game is 7 dollars off if you buy on steam. Or 14 off if you look around.

Hence 14 plus 5 saved with star oceans vs full retail. This guy could have both for same price he would pay for one game.

Winter sale is near so maybe buy both at a discounted price, if i had to choose one ill got with Xanadu, sure you pay a lot more but the game seem good ( tried it at a friend house) while Star Ocean Last Hope is a cringe fest from start to finish (experience from the time i played that on xbox360)

Tbh, the odds of this game getting discount in the winter sale is very low since it is just had been released and they even slap in 10% discount for early purchase.

actually this star ocean on here fairly good other starocean that newer one is the cringe fest.

If I were to be completely honest, I haven't enjoyed a Star Ocean game since 3. Infinite Undiscovery was more fun than I expected it to be, but I still feel like Tri Ace really lost their edge last generation and hasn't recovered it.

It probably didn't help that they lost so much staff around that time, either.

As an Ys fan who hasn't played Tokyo Xanadu but has played Star Ocean 4, I'd say go with Tokyo Xanadu. Even though SO4 is billed as an action RPG, I'd be hard pressed to really call that accurate. It's certainly not a turn based affair, but its combat system, while real time, is weird and not really actiony. And for us Ys fans who are used to the old bump system from the earliest Ys games, that's saying a lot.

And for whoever might doubt that a less directly controlled mode of action combat isn't possible in 3D and SO4 is the best it can get, I'd point you to The Last Story on the Wii. A lot of the combat was pretty much a modified bump system out of ye olde Ys. It feels so much better.

Word is Tokyo Xanadu is like Ys but a bit slower paced, and while I haven't played it, it sounds far more appealing than the SO4 combat that I have experienced.

As a SO2 fan i could never really get into SO3. I always enjoyed SO4. I really don't get why some people dislike it. The only arguement(that slightly makes sense) i ever heard was related to VA's. Tokyo's gameplay looks like ass just like the assy price.
This game is basically a boring version of Ys with TOCS looks.
I'd wait for a better sale tbh.
I really like SO4 so I'd say get that plus if you're on a budget then go for it.
Not sure the hate for SO4, but it's my first SO game...SO5 was my 2nd and it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

And if you don't have TOCS, I'd get that before this too...and the Ys series before this lmao.
