I have not come across the bugs you did. Researching works as intended - the AI is hard, although some interactions (such as Israel getting instakilled by USA upon expanding) may be more luck- than skill-dependent.
And although the game does indeed experience some minor lag, mechanically the game works fine, including your aforementioned hotkeys. During a game, press Esc and then head into the 'Hotkeys' menu to make sure you're pressing the correct one. Also, keep in mind that some of them are context dependent and will not work under certain circumstances - intentionally.
The Classic update has fixed a lot of issues that Final Hour was suffering from. For example, loading a saved game from a previous session has never reliably worked, but does so now. In Classic you can now play several games in one session without the game glitching out or breaking. Pre-Classic the game would sometimes soft-lock when the player was the only superpower remaining, forcing them to start a new game, losing their progress. Those were all game-breaking bugs and do no longer exist.
Blindflug Studios has invested and is still investing a lot, if not all, of their resources into this game and is continuously working towards making this game as good as can be, and as such, feedback is very welcome.
Right now Blindflug is most actively working on the mobile version of the game. Having listened to fan feedback, the mobile version of the game now has multiplayer[firststrike.mobi]. Also, any more.... explicit criticism is always welcome and is best made in #fs-feedback on our Discord[discord.gg].
Thanks a lot for your feedback, and hopes be you'll stick around! Until then, the best of luck,
ULTRACOMFY
Maybe you could try to uninstall and reinstall the game, it’s possible that this could help. But before you do, please make sure you have cloud save enabled.
Hope this helps!

They are the correct keys. If Blindflug has been pouring more resources into the mobile version, then there shouldn't be all of this different stuff going on with the PC version that people are complaining about. It has been changed and these are not "old version bugs" that were there before. Hot key issues are the same. In fact, just yesterday I replied to another person on here who was having the exact same issue with highlighting a portion of their country to perform a task and every action hot key that they used didn't work until they backed out of the game and started a new game. It happens every other game for me and I have to abandon my whole country and start again because I literally can't research, can attack using the strike button, can't launch individually, can't build new cruise missiles, etc. There's nothing circumstantial with that. When pressed, the keys should work on an untasked and hightlighted/shaded part of a country, as they are supposed to. That's the most major part of the game and not really a bug that can be brushed off. There's no mistake of the keys being pressed, there's an issue with the game that causes problems with using the keys at all. When the hot keys are being pressed and pressed and it does not respond at all, there's a new bug in the game and it is obviously due to an update on behalf of Blindflug. This is not an issue that existed last year and I have changed nothing on my PC that would affect such a thing. I saw the Steam "update" that it did days ago upon starting First Strike. A new version was updated and caused the bugs.
So now my question: how do we revert back to the old version on Steam? The new version is awful and not even worth playing because the bugs affect the very main focus and playability to perform tasks. Or where can we download the non-Steam old version that won't update? This new updated version is not the one that I originally spent money for after trying the initial demo. That original version worked. The bugs came about when people starting trying to fix what wasn't broken and in the process have broken what was working and a ton of other things that were working, as well. If the resources aren't there to fix all of the bugs, I don't know why a software company would undertake such a thing. It's like a grocery store saying they can't restock their merchandise or can't carry the same old products that they used to because they don't want to order them anymore and instead want to bring in a new product that nobody will buy. Kind of absurd. Businesses like that go out of business quickly.
Is there someplace where we can download a non-Cloud version of the old version that won't be affected by future updates? Some of us just wanted the original PC version that we purchased. It was working fine up until the more recent update, which I saw Steam performing when I started it up for the first time the other day in 2022. When I played it back in 2021, it was the original version that worked fine.
Yep and that's going to run this company into the ground. They won't understand it until their revenue is cut in half. If they think staff is 'low' now...oh boy, wait until they're unable to literally pay but a few people because they took on too many projects at once. I think they are vastly underestimating just how many of us purchased this via Steam for PC, as well. They're focusing on mobile, but somebody was working on updating the PC version and screwed it all up. Now we can't revert back. I don't know what happened...maybe they can make it right or provide us a way to download the old version or something. If they can't, I'm done with this company and any future product that they put out. I've tried the mobile version of it and even when I was on the go on public transit, it was infuriating trying to keep up with everything. There's too much multi-tasking for it to be a legitimate mobile game. They insist that it was originally a mobile game. That may be, but I'll bet Steam statistics show how many play it on PC the most.
Probably the most disturbing of all is that when playing for various countries, sometimes clicking a section anywhere within your territory causes it to shade and yet not a single one of the hotkeys works at all. I end up closing out the gaming after playing for 5-10 minutes and starting a new one, only to run into the same thing minutes later.
