While I love the first two games I wouldn't want to spend a dime on them, plus advertisements have already earned them enough.
Just play the damn games in a browser if you have to.

I hate this one simply because of 0 effort placed into balancing. Seems like Krin never actually playtested this and I am not a fan of building my character one specific ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ way that the dev would like me to play. I don't enjoy going full CC no dmg. Previous 2 games gave me freedom (aside from 2nd's heroic when opted for legend) and in this one you kinda have freedom of builds until you hit a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ concrete wall and have to start a new save cus you can't repick a strain.
You may be right that the importance of crowd control is too great. And maybe the strains are not super balanced (I only tried physical, frost, and lightning myself). I think I liked Sonny II better. Even so, I enjoyed my time playing this game. I wouldn't say it is a bad game at all. "Hate" is a big word!
I really do hate it thought. It's literally one of like 5 games I started and did not finish. Abilities in S2 were super fun but this for me boils down to who can "outdebuff/outbuff" who.
And that's the problem. There's a reason why this strain combination in particular is so popular — it helps you practically cheese through the game. The sheer amount of stun abilities (Break, Mind Freeze, Ice Wall), focus draining abilities (Coldsnap, Warp Strike, Shockwave) and such a game-breaking ability as Frost Charge all allow the player to basically stunlock enemies without them ever attacking (Arcanis and Praetor being the sole exceptions with their stun resistances). The biggest problem with the game is that most of the challenge comes from the turn system itself, when it should actually come from the enemies, choosing the right abilities and coming up with the right strategy. The core gameplay, especially if it's something this basic, should in no way hindrance the player.
That doesn't mean I hate the game. On the contrary, I think it has a lot of good ideas sprinkled within, both story-wise and gameplay-wise, and, heck, I always commend experimentation and am glad Krin tried to do something different, especially with a series with such established mechanics. I just don't think the experiment succeeded all that well.
Again, really like the story. Fewer holes and loose ends, Baron actually has some story and as much as people ♥♥♥♥♥ about him, the guy had 0 purpose in both previous games. I also appreciate the artstyle quite a bit.
