Wait, so... this is Rom?
So it's not like collection of console port, but a collections of roms? For $40?

Roms with copyrights and developed by the company who now is selling those roms, which have monitary value. I don't know if they teach that in middle school these days. Why would you want the crap console ports to begin with?

MAME has a near-perfect arcade emulation core.

Hopefully it is

this collection should be sold for 4.99. anymore its a scam imo. But good luck to everyone, I'm sticking with emulators+roms.

I looked for 'insert coin' above the health bar and I did see some shots with 'free play' on them, so I'm guessing that it is ROMs emulated and the dip switches set to free play.

If you're too lazy to deal with MAME and ROMs and the aspect ratio is correct in these games (the image isn't mis-shapen or stretched out of proportion), then it's a good package; I wouldn't pay $40, but sales are so common that it'll be $20 or less by this summer.

a colection of roms but with Versus, Training Mode and Online

For what we know, no training or versus modes on these games.

Just watch Steam trailer, online versus confirmed (for some of the games, seems like it's not all)

yes we know, it's been confirmed before and they confirmed it again today in the Capcom Unity stream that's going on right now on Twitch

Some people played the game (which is not finished yet) and confirmed there were no versus or training mode.

Still, is pathetic we are discussing if a fighting game has a training mode or not.

OH MY GOD. IN THE FINAL BUILD OF THE GAME THERE WILL BE VERSUS AND TRAINING MODE. THE GAME WAS NEVER PLANNED TO NOT HAVE TRAINING MODE FFS...

And you justify releasing a bunch of roms for $40

I probably won't even play with roms tbh, but I feel like game should be better than roms especially if they charge $40 on nearly 20 years old games.

"Better than ROMs"

What do you mean by this? A straight hardware-based port rather than emulation? Neat as that is to consider, past a certain age emulation is simply much easier and more practical than straight porting.

Just because the word "ROM" has become jargon for retro piracy regardless of the actual file format (how about those PS1 "ROMs", eh?) doesn't bar companies from re-releasing old games in good taste. (Pricing being a different matter)

That's the legitamately awkward part of retro re-releases; you know the publisher's emulator won't be MAME or Higan-tier.

That's the thing. Not to steal your words but I'm more concerned about emulator that they'll be using, instead ROM that I'm concerned about. If I'm on right page, what Capcom is doing is similar to iTunes selling free videos for 99cents, except for Capcom it's $40.

I won't say that playing roms for free means any good, in fact I haven't played anything with mame for long, long time, but I still think $40 with simply pulling roms and slamming it into emulator seems way too lazy to me. Maybe art collection, unlockables, something like that line won't hurt for additional content.

Seeing as people argue extra features and bonus content dont matter:

I'd like to bring up that everyone seemed to be perfectly okay with paying $15 for just 3rd Strike a couple years ago.

Digital Eclipse does a little more than just emulation. they recompile these old games for a virtual runtime environment called Eclipse Enginge which then they can easily port to different platforms.

from their homepage

Digitize a movie once, and it’s watchable forever, no matter how technology evolves. Scan a book, and it can be reprinted infinitely. Port a game, and it’s only playable on that one platform… getting it running anywhere else would require a significant amount of work and investment.

The Eclipse Engine solves this problem by putting all of the porting needs on the engine itself, not the games. Once a game is converted to our Eclipse format, it will run anywhere Eclipse does. And we’ll keep it updated, too, meaning that wherever we go, the games can easily follow.

Genuine question: Why don't the devs just ask the MAME devs if they can use their emulator in the re-release, rather than making their own emulator from scratch?
