Won't create a save dataa upon booting up

So when I first opened the game, like most games, it asks me to create a save data, which I agree to, then it says that if I don't create a save data, it won't save the game, obviously, and then boots me back to the text prompt that asks me to save. Even when I say, "Ok" when creating a save file it does this, and there seems to be no way to avoid this. I just end up in an endless loop before even playing the game. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, did you find a solution?

I'm on a PS4 controller. Apparently the confirm button on that is square, and not X. Ultimately my fault, but still odd. Thanks for the help, fam.
