How do you pause the game to give orders?
I'm trying to get to grips with this game without the help of any tutorial, but I just can;t find the pause button so that I can stop the clock to orgnaise my forces and workout how the UI works.

I've tried all the obvious options like 'Pause', 'P' and 'Space bar' but the clock keeps ticking. So, can anyone tell me where the pause button is hidden.

Ok! slight progress. I've managed to discover that ESC causes the mission to be paused and sends you back to the command screen. That pauses the game, but then you can't view the battlefield or give orders to your units.

So, how do I do that?

This is really frustrating.

It's not possible in WEE (only in WRD). You can achieve that via a Mod or Cheat Engine for example ..

Just tried Red Dragon and although the 'Bullet Time' speed option gives you an almost paused function. It proved not to be much use in an actual battle as there is no control key allocated to it , so it becomes really clunky to keep changing the game speed back a forth.

Not sure if there are control keys assigned ot the speed options, but if so they didn;t appear in the options menu.

i agree they should focus on bringing the older iterations up to par with Red Dragon like have a slow down speed up option.

Yeah! was really interested in playing the scandanavian campaign in the 2nd game, but as far as i know that doesn't have any active pause function at all.

Managed to solve this problem by downloading the CheatEgine and using the SpeedHack option to slow down the gameplay.

You can't comletely pause the game, but by setting one hot-key to a ridiculously slow speed (e.g. 0.01 in my case) everything is running so slowly its almost the same thing.

I also set another hot-key to 0.5 (which is basically half speed) and this compensates for the accelerated real time used by the MP community. I find at this reduced speed tanks, trucks and infantry look like they are moving at the correct scale speed, and it reduces the need to keep pausing the game.

Yeah! especially as the 'Bullet Time' function they added to 'Red Dragon' is pretty much it anyway. I'm dissapointed that they haven't retro-fitted the same active pause feature in the earlier games. It makes a world of difference to the single player game, as you can actually concentrate on the tactics and enjoy the graphics when you're not having to engage in a click fest.

However, CheatEngine seems to do the job and is reasonalby easy to set up. You just have to remember to switch back to normal speed for the cut-scenes as it slows everything down not just the game.

I was worried about the safety of this download and was careful to DL it from the official site, and I passed my AV scanner over it before installing. Not that, that is a guaratee, but so far I've not noticed any problems.

Yes, the only problem I have with Red Dragons 'Bullet Time' function is that I couldn;t find a way of assigning a hot-key to it. So, its a bit clunky to use during actual gameplay.

BTW: I saw a weird thing yesterday.

I was watching an ALB lets play and the guy was doing a special video to shows the beauty of the game and its units, and he kept pausing and slowing down the game to do it. But what was weird was that he seemed to have a speed control bar in the bottom centre of his hud that let him choose the game speed by clicking on buttons.

I've never seen anything like that in ALB, so I'm wondering of there is some other solution to this problem out there that we don't know about. I post a link to the video if I can find it, unfortunately I do watch a lot of lets plays.

Found it:

Take a look at the pop-up hud that appears around 7:45. It seems to have a pause button featured.

He's watching a replay, a game which was played in the past and saved for later reviewing. In replays, there's a pause function.

Ah! That explains it. I thought he was actually pausing the live game play.
