Mines
Ive always somewhat hated the mines in Harvest Moon games. The pitfalls, hoeing the ground to find the stairs, starting from floor 1 every time, but LoH fixed most of that. No more pitfalls, mine floor checkpoints, but not the hoeing. There's only 1 stair for every floor, and I am the most unlucky person in the world. I wish there were more stairs, or at least bring back the feature of sometimes digging up items (like the sunshine islands mine) when hoeing the ground.

When you start upgrading the hoe, it comes a ton easier to find the stairs. Even the first upgrade is a godsend.

I know, but I wanted to upgrade the watering can first. Seemed more useful to me.

I do the hoe first, because
a. the mines are crazy profitable
b. sometimes the ore needed can be tough to find, so I need to burn through many floors to get what I need.

to me that means fixing the hoe "pays" for itself quickly and then pays for the other upgrades

using this method I was often able to upgrade my watering can the same day as the hoe.

I'm not sure how profitable mining is, because Gus is constantly telling me how useless ores are until he refines them. For an extremely high price. I haven't tried profiting from mining yet, because I can't find anyone who'll buy ores for more.

I find fishing and farming extremely profitable. Carol pays crazy for flowers, and Bastian pays even crazier for crops and fish. 1 bluegill (i THINK it was a bluegill) sells for 600. I sold him a big harvest I had once, and I got from 45g to 7730g immediately (in the first spring). I thought buying a barn animal would take forever. Even just planting a whole bunch of 4 day crops and flowers is super profitable. Carol buys marguerites for 75g. Those common flowers you can forage easily sells for 75 each. Holy crap farming money is plentiful in this game.

If farming money is plentiful, mining money cover 85% of the earth. I only refine the jewels and can make 45k a day without a upgraded hammer.

Damn, that's a lot, but who do you sell to? Does anyone buy for more? And what if you subtract all the refining costs, how much do you make then?

I sell it to Sam. haven't found anyone who buys it for more. I already subtracted refining costs and I was just digging down to get deeper.

Refining is high investment for high payout. Once you get to the bottom of the mines, where rare stuff becomes common, then it's time to get your scrooge mcduck swimsuit on.

Yeah gems are so ridiculously profitable it almost breaks the game.

A single trip to the mines can easily give you 10k. And that's just the early stuff with the basic tools.

^^ exactly for the few gems I bothered calculating the sell cost is triple the refine cost. supposedly really "rare" soul gems sell for like 5000 a pop and I get at least 3 every time I hit up the 81+ range

also if you really want to profit from flowers, wait until there out of season to sell. It varies how much more they are worth but at least 30g or so, sometimes triple what they were in season.

I haven't paid attention to out of season crops and whether they are worth more.

Yeah the only problem is that you dont have ways to spend money. There is no decor items to buy and all constructs worth like 2-5k only.
Ursa Nov 22, 2017 @ 1:26am
you can unlock a few decor items from doc by completing his requests. plus if you want to get serious about crop mutations u need a ton of fertilizer and its easier to buy.

but i agree its hard to spend all the money
