the reason for the price difference is the "brand" of Harvest Moon.
This game is great if you are a fan of the genre and want to switch it up from stardew, but Stardew is king.
On the farming side:
Stardew Valley's farming crops is very simple and trivialized once you get sprinklers that auto water everything - Its fairly easy to max out any crop and I don't remember storms being very threating. Animals are basicly the same bettween the two..
For this HM.. You don't get sprinklers and late game storms and such will punish you for not taking care of your crops properly. Also has a mutation system where most crops can become a new kind of crop if grown in the right conditions. Animals again pretty much the same.
On the character side:
It depends what you prefer.. IMO Stardews cast is kinda boring as whole and I didn't really like anyone in preticuler. But they are more realistic vs this HM where they are far more light hearted and a bit silly. - Personally I prefer the HM cast to Stardew but neither is really bad and just depends on what you want from it.
Relationships are pretty basic in both.. Give gifts and eventually they love you.. Though Stardew limits you to two gifts per week per character, and HM has a request system that gives you a bit random mini-story to follow through... Idk if there is a difference in marriage as I didn't get that far in this HM.
Also Harvest Sprites > Junimo - just sayin.
Festivals:
I think HM has better festivals but Stardew has better presentation of its festivals.
Story:
Stardew doesn't really have a story, it more just has a side quest to work through (baislcy collecting various things, or collecting money) and is otherwise a freemode the entire time kinda game. I do like its main quest though.
HM's story is pretty short really and then is freemode for finishing anything else you want to finish.
Other stuff:
Stardew has some basic Zelda style combat you use in the mines along along with a level system which unlocks things as you do stuff. It has a very expansive crafting system, to mainly decorate your house and farm with (though includes some machines like sprinklers and cheese makers). As well as a nice amount of collectiables.
Most things in HM unlocks through the request system (or advancing the story and selling crops/flowers). You have a rebuild the townmechanic to work through to for unlocking places or people. You have severl different fields instead of one. You can only really collect crops and fish through a collection tab.
Over all Stardew Valley is worth the 15$. Imo this game is also worth the 30$ but even more worth it on a bigger sell (And will improve probably with some dlc/patches).
Stardew probably has more content as a whole - and some new dlc/mutiplayer coming. Personally don't think Stardew Valley is as amazing as people claim it is but it is still a good HM style game. It is a bit personal preferences though, and stardew lacks in some key places for me... but more then makes up for it with other stuff.
Haven't finished this game to really say how good or not I think it is.. But I've liked it up till now.
This means that you can play Harvest Moon just fine in several different situations in several different types of computers. While Stardew Valley has more hard-set requirements that limit how you play it, but offering different kinds of gameplay like combat.
Both styles have their ups and downs. It's up to your current needs.

Stardew Valley is an awesome game you can put 100's of hours into
This is nohing more than a cash grab, it's not even a real Harvest Moon game as the true HM devs now work on the Story of Seasons games. This is just a rip off to scam people who don't do their research.
