Mining stairs

I was curious if anyone has perhaps found a nifty trick to locate the stairs faster or if we really do have to just hope we get lucky and hit the right spot?

In most cases the stairs appear within 3 squares of a wall after floor 85 there is more chance it appears away from the wall, using the best hoe wil improve speed alot, since you can make 3x5 patrons alongside the walls. hope it helps.
